This winter fourth warmest in Twin Cities history [GRAPHIC]

This winter was too warm for much of the white stuff to accumulate.
It's March. When will winter start?

Apparently, this year, it won't. We somehow managed to skate through Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Year's, and Valentine's Day with daytime temps rarely dipping below 30 degrees and, for those of us in Minneapolis at least, no snow emergencies. Temps are projected to hit 50 degrees by next Tuesday. In other words, the "worst" of it is behind us.

It may have seemed like a once-in-a-lifetime Minnesota winter. In fact, it ended up being the fourth warmest on record. Here's a graphic from the National Weather Service showing detailing just how about average Twin Cities temps have been since the beginning of December.

2012 winter.png
The average temperature in the Twin Cities this winter was just over 26 degrees. In recent times, the winter of 2001-2002 was actually warmer, with an average temperature of about 27 degrees. The warmest winter on record, by far, occurred in 1877-1878, when the average temperature was 29 degrees.

And lest you ever convince yourself that long-range forecasts mean something, please remember that "experts" predicted this winter would be like hell on earth back in early December. Sure, it may be have gotten a little warmer around here, but most would agree this winter has been anything but hellfire and brimstone.

Of course the summer of 1816 brought unseasonably cold temperatures to the Northeastern United States, Canada, and Europe. Damaged crops and impeded trade. Scientists believe volcanic activity caused that. The weather does funny things. Climate changes constantly. For billions of years we didn't have weather people tracking climate. Of course the weather people have only started to study the oceans and solar activity impacts on the weather.

Mankind has a long way to go to acurately predict weather, ice ages, warming trends, etc. Anyone claiming they have the answer are self serving fools. (and dangerous)

Aaron Rupar, that bastion of everything trendy and cool, is hinting that man made global warming is a sham?! Awesomeness.

Then we have the data on Alaska.  20+ degrees BELOW normal for the month of January.

I like this-"The warmest winter on record, by far, occurred in 1877-1878, when the average temperature was 29 degrees"Must have been all that burning of fossil fuels and production of CO2 back in the 1870's.  Isn't that right? (you global warming goof)

The whole problem with the world is that fools and fanatics are always so certain of themselves, and wiser people so full of doubts.
