St. Paul raid reveals Minnesota's first known "party drug" lab

Meyer and his accomplice allegedly used their apartment to dismantle prescription drugs and recalibrate them in stronger forms.
Yesterday, police raided a second-floor West Seventh Street apartment in St. Paul and found a unique drug-manufacturing operation.

The 101 Douglas St. unit contained chemicals shipped from China, grain alcohol and ether, and an array of tranquilizers and depressants.

According to the Pioneer Press, two residents of the apartment -- Timothy Lee Meyer, 32, and Amanda Lee Vickaryous, 23 -- were arrested at the scene and booked into jail on suspicion of possession of controlled substances, with other charges likely to follow. A 4-year-old girl related to one of the suspects who also lived at the apartment was placed in protective services.

Officials said the apartment was being used to transform prescription drugs into "super-drugs" by breaking them down, removing time-release buffers, and combining them with other drugs.

Said Ramsey County Sheriff's spokesman Randy Gustafson:

Said police, of Vickaryous and Meyer's operation: "It wasn't like your dirty meth-lab operation."
They take like a regular prescription drug and then take away the buffering agents or the starches and things that make it so they're not quite so potent. They'll pull those compounds out and leave only the drug behind. And then they'll add another compound or two and then make a super hallucinogenic or a super depressant or something like that out of it.
Gustafson added that the operation appeared much more sophisticated than a typical meth lab. He said it's definitely the first operation of its sort found in Ramsey County, "and possibly the first in Minnesota dealing with this type of synthetic party drug."

Charges against Meyer and Vickaryous have yet to be filed.

Just by the way they look, as bad as mug shots can be, is an anti drug add waiting to happen...

Is it illegal to posses prescription medication (if it has been prescribed to you)Is it illegal to posses wood grain alcohol, ether, or other legal substances (even if I have to order oversees)Keep the Fed's out of my business and I'll do what I want with my prescription medication!

LOL, when are the feds going to raid the pharmaceutical companies?  How many more people have died from prescription medication than illegal street drugs?

How do you think they got caught?   It's not because there was a complaint against this couple or someone snitched.  The DEA has been tracking chemicals and pills that come through the mail for a long time. Big brother is watching...

It's only illegal when you're the one making the profit.

Yes!! What were the illegal chemicals that they were possessing?! It wasn't a meth lab.. so illegal just because it didn't have their own name on it or what?!  The reason so many people get hooked to prescription drugs in the first place is because they get it PRESCRIBED to them in the former by a physician. MayYyYybbe it's time to stop sanctioning the possession of these substances and instead sanction the makers, which is the pharmaceutical companies!! RAID them!! They are the source of all the prescription drugs AND the cause for addictions to narcotics!! Out of sight, out of mind. Vitamin shops are a wonderful alternative.

That is - to be fair - a totally stupid thing you just said.

These people were obviously very smart chemists and know more about the breakdown of prescription drugs down to the effect that the combination will give. Judging someone's family is an outright ridiculous way to express one's own insecurities. If my best friend got murdered by a drunk driver while we were in a crosswalk, are his parents, children, and wife murderous monsters as well!? The fact is that nobody died here in order for this attention to be raised, and things like this do not happen over night. The girl was obviously in a relationship with the guy, and as to what gave her the confidence that daughter was in a non hazzardous environment at the time of the raid is what can be cause for concern. Comments like yours make people's insecurities grow, because if both of their upbringings were situations just as good or better off than yours, then your completely incorrect. Do your parents get the blame for your slander? How do you know that their family isn't upset with them to the same extent that yours would be? What's worse is that the MURDERER went to jail for a little over 3 years, and the person that people went to for a good time may be going to jail for most of the rest of his life?? I am only guessing, but I think we can all see where this is going. No need to blow it out of proportion, and pay attention to the small comments that the police make about how it "wasn't dirty" and had an alarmingly sophisticated set up. Its also nothing new that China plays a role in the international drug trade, including with people all over the United States, and including here, in GODS COUNTRY --- THE LAND OF 10,000 LAKES. Ya right. get off your high horse, you are no better than the person next to you, no matter who it is.

Oh no! People importing insane amounts of weirdo chemicals from China might get CAUGHT by the DEA?!?!?! I clearly live in the wrong country! Do you want to live in the countries where kids get sold in the sex market, dude? Is that 'conservative' enough for you?

You're right, we should allow corporate america to make all the profit.  How are xanax, oxycontin or serequel any better than alcohol, weed and psychedelic mushrooms? obviously manufacturing in the presence of a child is grounds for corrective actions, but they weren't doing anything pfizer hasn't done already.

Ban them all - these two are scum though.  I hope they get love in jail.
