Timothy LaMere is convicted of providing a lethal overdose of 2-CE to his friend.
Timothy LaMere, the 22-year-old charged in the first-known 2-CE overdose death, agreed to a state-maximum 10-year prison sentence in court Thursday.

LaMere was charged with third-degree murder about a year ago after supplying the synthetic drug to a group of friends, causing 11 overdoses, including the death of LaMere's friend Trevor Robinson-Davis, a 19-year-old father.

According to the original charges, LaMere showed up at a house party during spring break and offered friends what he called "2-CI." He told everyone the grayish powder was a hallucinogen, and snorted a line. At least 10 others took the drug as well.

Trevor Robinson-Davis was the first-known victim of a lethal 2-CE overdose.
Things got ugly pretty quickly after that. First Robinson-Davis began yelling and punching walls. Then he couldn't breathe. Others got sick and disoriented. Someone eventually called 911 and while other partygoers waited for the ambulance, another friend drove Robinson-Davis to the hospital and left him in the parking lot. By the time he got medical attention, it was already too late. He died soon after of cardiac arrest, which the medical examiner determined was a result of the drug.

Authorities identified the substance as 2-CE, a synthetic party drug commonly referred to as "Europa." Developed by Alexander Shulgin, a psychopharmacologist known for popularizing Ecstasy, the drug can bring on intense hallucinations.

At the time of the mass overdose, police knew very little about the synthetic drug, though some believed synthetics in general were becoming more popular.

"These analog-type drugs are kind of becoming more and more of a problem," Anoka County Sheriff commander Paul Sommer told us in an interview after the incident. "We haven't specifically dealt with anything of this magnitude."

Perhaps this is why the feds decided to make an example out of LaMere? According to the Star Tribune, the U.S. Attorney's Office threatened to intervene with federal charges if Anoka County prosecutors didn't get a maximum sentence. LaMere said in court that the letter influenced his decision to take the plea deal.

LaMere will be formally sentenced on May 25.

2c-e is a safe substance when used responsibly, the dosage for this chemical is TINY, we are talking 15mg or so, which would look like a very  very thin line of powder about the length of a pinky fingernail

railing this shit up into 100-200mg lines and throwing research chemicals into your bodies is an easy way to die, i think all of the kids involved are equally to blame, one of them couldve EASILY obtained correct dosage information from numerous reputable online sources

that is bullshit---anyone can order this and this kid took the drug on his own freee will---why does someone always have to pay for a mistake made by someone else????

Class warfare...if this kid had money, he'd never see more than a few days in jail. The vile prosecutor in this case should be imprisoned for no less than 25 years...some hard labor maybe. Racketeering, kidnapping, false imprisonment, fraud, and conspiracy to commit all of the above. We need to hold these evil traitors responsible.  The 'justice' system, and all who participate, should be put on trial for crimes against the American people. Highest, by far, incarceration rate in the world...these foul swine, who build their careers destroying families and lives, need to be culled.

What foolish legal and "corrections" systems we have here in the USA.  I don't remember reading the part about how the one douchebag forced his other douchebag friend to snort a line of an unknown substance at gun point.  What ever happened to personal responsibility? Furthermore, when's the last time you heard someone smoking a joint and keeling over dead?  All these stupid synthetics only exist because of our arcane drug laws.   How about legalizing drugs, promoting personal responsibility (not blaming one douchebag for the acts of another), and honest drug education (plant good; laboratory chemicals bad).

I heard from someone who knew some of them they were smoking bath salts as well. That sounds like a more likely culprit, though I have never touched or seen 2-CE so I can't say.

If only marijuana was legal - they would have gotten high & nobody would have died.

It couldn't hurt that Anoka County invest in alternative stimulants for the youth.  The kids have little to do so many turn to drugs, primarily cheap home made drugs, as a form of excitment.  Maybe pool halls that don't require a minimum age.  Arts and music lacks.  I'm just saying I've seen a lot of good people turn bad in Anoka specifically for some reason.  FYI the bike trails suck out there.  Tore a shoulder ligament 2 yrs ago due to lack of maintance on the trail.

100% correct.  The public defender involved in this case is just as much at fault as the district attorney as far as I'm concerned.  You can't honestly believe that 10 years is the best deal that they could come up with for this guy, even with the threat from the US attorney's office.  Unless I am mistaken there was no federal ban on the substances he purchased so how could he be prosecuted in federal court?

That's the dumbest thing I've ever heard. Sorry. But plenty of people get stoned on pot all the time and still look for bigger kicks.

You are so correct....the mean streets of Anoka County have gotten out of control.  The constant drive-by shootings and gang violence has got to stop.  Perhaps the fine people of North Minneapolis could show Anoka County residents how their arts, music and culture can really make a community thrive so that the young kids don't get into drugs or gangs.

Because we all know that North Minneapolis is known for wonderful schools, nice, clean, safe neighborhoods. A place where citizens can enjoy the peace and quiet of a inner city neighborhood with well-lit streets, an area where people take pride in ownership, a place where a myriad of world class dining is within walking distance and a place where everyone knows your name.  Also, great biking paths!!

I'm fine with legalizing cocaine too.  Predictably dosed cocaine would be preferential to people trying all of these crazy drugs.

If Marijuana were legalized right now today, thousands of lives could be saved.

Jody, you are very ignorant of your surroundings. Understand the bad things happen in every community...oh and pull your head out of your ass.

How about instead of bitching at each other about who has the worse neighborhood/community, realize that there are problems in every community. I've lived in both Minneapolis and northern Anoka county. They both have there issues with crime and drugs. The grass isn't always greener on the other side....

I guess you haven't spent much time in Anoka lately, and clearly don't know what you're talking about so your smart ass comments probably seem pretty funny.  But, sadly, Research is right.  There is a huge drug/crime problem in Anoka and no one seems to notice.  Personally, given the choice, I'd take N. Mpls anyday over Anoka.  At least the N Mpls crowd is trying to make some changes...and yes, the biking paths along Victory Memorial Drive and Wirth Parkway are wonderful!  Much nicer than riding around the dirt roads of Anoka County, land of meth houses and Michele Bachmann supporters.

But the difference is that in Northern Anoka County, people don't have to watch their backs if they decide to take a walk with their dog after dark.  People don't have to fear for their lives every second of everyday praying that they they won't get hit by a stray bullet.  You can laugh at Anoka County all you want and call it "Trailer Trash" and "RedNeck Central" all you want, but it is still SAFER than any ghetto alley in Norff Minneapolis.  The only "bad" part of Anoka County is the Southern Part (Columbia Heights, Fridley, Spring Lake Park) and the reason is it bad is because of the "African American Community" who have come here from Norff Minneapolis to collect Anoka County Welfare.  These Coons now think that they "Own" the community that they have destroyed.  But this won't be for long.....you will start to see Race Riots in this area pretty soon....WE WILL NOT ALLOW ALLOW OUR COMMUNITY TO BE DESTROYED BY WELFARE-COLLECTING BLACKS.  If you want to get your "Ghetto On" go the fuck back to Norff Minneapolis.  WE DON'T WANT YOU HERE!!!!  And if you think that I am the only one who thinks thi sway, you are WRONG!!!

North Minneapolis is trying to make changes?  Apparently the CP is your only source of news.  Look at the number of crimes that have been committed "over Norff" in the past month.  Don't hear about a lot of drive-by shootings and gang violence up here in Andover. At least my kids can walk to school without having to worry about getting hit with a stray bullet.  But you are so correct.  I know that thousands of families with young children are just DYING to get out their quiet, peaceful, suburban lives and would move to North Minneapolis in a New York minute if they had the chance.
