Trolls aside, this article and subsequent comments really underscores the great divide that exists in our society. On one hand one cannot honestly feel that if for some reason you were riding a bike down a street in certain parts of Minneapolis at night and a young African American wearing perceived thug gear approaches you there wouldn't be a natural instinct of fight/flight. On the other there has been such a history of corruption by Caucasian authority figures ie police, politicians, etc. that no one feels sympathy for the white male. I don't know, I think were in for something ugly. Remember Rodney King anyone? If Zimmerman is found innocent (rightly or wrongly), I believe shit is gonna hit the fan. Even in my own culture, there is mistrust of both African Americans and Caucasians on certain issues. The melting pot is too hot and has now broken what ever was meant to be melted imho. (For those of you who don't know, gentrification is the process of moving People of Color out of a poor neighborhood to create small mini-ghettos in wealthy suburbs, buying property for low amounts, and then "cleaning up" the neighborhood and reselling the property for a hefty profit. Many investors are gov't officials, sich as the ones in MN who divert police traffic from areas in order to drop property values more quickly. They divert this presence to wealthier areas in order to maintain the values of their wealthy constituents/donators. The problem is caused by greed and wealthy people. They'd also know that any sociology study will show that the greatest factors that lead to crime are prior victimization, history of abuse, poverty, and lack of education; so by their fathers pushing all the minorities into derelict, "lesser" areas of town because they were the racists of the 50's and 60's they caused the area that exists today..

The only thing that receives money in North Minneapolis is the police force, WHICH if you'll remember was recently exposed for stealing from North Minneapolis residents because they didn't think "they deserved nice things". Our schools are massively underfunded, teachers barely make a living wage, yet people still wonder why our best and brightest don't become teachers. We have the lowest minimum wage in the developed world and no health benefits, so if poorly educated kids wanted to go out and "pull themselves up by their bootstraps" they would struggle to make ends meet no matter how hard they work. Oh, and the only jobs that are available are at Mcdonalds and other places that treat their employees like dirt. And people wonder why these kids turn to crime. It's because these kids have no applicable job skills and have the societal pressure to live the american dream and get rich bearing down on them. Then when some of them turn to crime people like you cast their entire race as deviants, which further enforces the idea in the kids minds that they ARE deviants, and the cycle repeats. So your solution is to do what? Give more tax cuts to multi-millionares? Our society created this problem and you want to do nothing to help and let them starve to death because you've decided they're "lazy". Or maybe they're just unlucky enough to be born into different circumstances than you or I. Have some compassion for gods sake.
