After an eight year hiatus, Brock Lesnar made a dramatic return to the WWE last night.
If you can't beat 'em, make a lot of money fake fightin' 'em.

Just over three months after his body and UFC reputation took a beating at the hands and feet of Alistair Overeem, Brock Lesnar entered a WWE ring for the first time in eight years.

When 26-year-old Brock got bored with pro wrestling and left WWE in 2004 to pursue a done-before-it-started professional football career, he had already established himself as possibly the most promising pro wrestling prospect since The Rock. At 34, Lesnar is still young by pro wrestling standards, but with his football and UFC careers in the past, a return to the squared circle now represents his best and perhaps only career prospect whether he wants to wrassle or not.

On last night's Monday Night Raw, Brock made his return at the very end of the show, interrupting a John Cena promo. Rumors of Lesnar's WWE return had been circulating ever since he retired from UFC immediately after getting his ass kicked by Overeem last December 30, and earlier during Cena's promo the 13,000 fans at the American Airlines Arena in Miami actually began chanting "Les-nar! Les-nar! Les-nar!" As Cena wound down his promo, Lesnar's entrance music began blasting out of nowhere, and before you knew it there was The Next Big Thing, flexing his pecs and tough-preening for the adoring crowd as if he had never left.

Lesnar entered the ring, extended his hand in an apparent effort to shake hands with Cena, but then pulled him over his shoulders and "laid him out" with his patented finishing move, the F5. Announcer Michael Cole said, "the landscape, the complexion of WWE has been drastically changed with one emphatic F5 from the beast, the freak, Brock Lesnar." And yes, I know way too much about professional wrestling for my own good.
