Robert Joseph Jones suggests the Native Mob still threatens the Cass Lake community.
A self-proclaimed Native Mob gang member was convicted of making terroristic threats to a Cass County Sheriff's Deputy this week, and could face up to three years in prison.

Robert Joseph Jones, a 31-year-old with a lengthy criminal history, told the deputy he planned to find out where he lived, and that the deputy could expect to get "fucked up," according to the criminal complaint.

Jones is from Cass Lake, located on the Leech Lake Indian Reservation, long believed to be a hub for the Native Mob. Since the federal crackdown on the Native Mob earlier this year, police say they've seen an overall lull in crime around the reservation, Minnesota Public Radio reports. But Jones is one member of the violent gang not mentioned in the indictment, which suggests the threat hasn't been eliminated.

Back in December, the Cass County Sheriff's office got a call about a fight in Cass Lake, according to the charges. Deputy Jesse Iverson responded to the address, and saw three people walking by another squad car, refusing to stop.

Iverson recognized one of them as Jones, and arrested him.

On the way to jail, Jones asked Iverson if he'd ever heard of the Native Mob, and claimed to be an affiliate, according to the charges. After telling Iverson he was going to get "fucked up," Jones said he recognized him as the supervisor for the jail's sentence to serve program. Jones said it was "funny" that Iverson expected to supervise inmates and think "he would never get hurt."

Iverson had reason to take Jones' claim seriously. Since 2007, Jones has been convicted three times of fourth-degree assault against a peace officer.

Once placed in jail, Jones began acting "very aggressive" and pounding on the cell door, according to the complaint. Sentencing is scheduled for next month.
