350-pound Wisconsin man picketing restaurant after he's cut off during all-you-can-eat fish fry

Wisth, "false advertising" sign in tow, talks to reporters as he pickets outside Chuck's.
Only in America... and especially in Wisconsin.

Bill Wisth -- a 6'6",  350-pound resident of Mequon, Wisconsin -- used to be a regular at Chuck's Place, a family-run restaurant in Thiensville, Land of Cheese. But Wisth's days as a regular came to an abrupt end last weekend after the restaurant cut him off during an all-you-can-eat fish fry.

What an outrage! Wisth is so upset that he's started picketing the restaurant and promises to stand outside with his Sharpie-scrawled "false advertising" sign every weekend until the end of time.

Wisth says he was eating at Chuck's with a friend last weekend when he told a server he wanted another helping of fish. He says he was only given a few tiny pieces, yet the server told him they were fresh out. Still hungry, Wisth says he refused to pay his bill. Police were eventually called and Wisth's large, fish-loving ass was kicked out of the restaurant.
fried fish.jpg
Wisth wanted more fried fish than Chuck's was prepared to offer.

"If the people who run the restaurant put up signs that say all you can eat, but then selectively not want to fill that promise, that's false advertising," Wisth told WISN.

Chuck's management offers a different account of what happened on that fateful night. According to the restaurant, the server politely informed Wisth they were out of the fish Chuck's was serving as part of the all-you-can-eat promotion, but offered to fry up some "more expensive fish" to make up for the inconvenience. Management claims they busted Wisth illicitly serving fish to his friend, who hadn't ordered the all-you-can-eat deal, but tried to accommodate his demands nonetheless. They also claim Wisth chowed down more than 20 pieces of fish before they ran out.

As Wisth picketed outside the restaurant on a recent afternoon, Elizabeth Roeming, a server at Chuck's, approached him, apparently feeling betrayed by her former regular's public denouncement of the restaurant.

Roeming, who told WISN she always tried to please Wisth with fresh bread and ample condiments, said the owner of Chuck's used to let Wisth keep a running tab, since he couldn't always afford to pay his bill.

"To have you come out here to say don't come here, it's actually going to help our business," Roeming said. "You might want to stop because everyone loves us here."

Wow whats with all the hate against fat people?

When Applebees had their "endless chicken fingers" thing going on, I managed to eat 19 chicken fingers. I'm not a plumper or anything; at the time I was 160lbs and 6ft nothing. I think at the end the bartender amd a few of the regulars were impressed that I could pack so much away.

That being said, if they'd cut me off, I wouldn't have been upset.

Let him eat...give him plenty of salt and tarter sauce to go with the fried fish...he'll be dead soon enough, and they can plant him in a piano crate.

Bill Wisth, as morbidly obese as you are, you should be totally embarassed about the whole thing....We see you as a rude, greedy, glutton...You also broke the rules by giving fish to your friend who didn't order it! That in itself is WRONG! You should be ashamed of yourself!~You need to apologize publicly to the restaurtant's owner and employees RIGHT NOW! And put away you Picket sign....And then stay away from the place FOREVER!!....

At 350 lbs this guy doesnt need all you can eat of anything.  Any time you do a promotion of this sort you get the bottom feeders coming out of the woodwork.  I ran a BBQ operation and put an end to it just because of freeloaders like this.  I will guarantee you him and his buddy probably left the waitress a buck after eating like pigs.  I found people coming in with lawn and leaf bags under the table and when you caught them they were indignant.  The biggest problem  are the lower rung operations like Applebees which fawn over these idiots for the smallest of complaints.  And dont think Tiny didnt know it.

The author fails to mention the most important thing - the approximate weight of each piece.

I don't think they're the ones getting the bad press. I certainly wouldn't be put off from eating there based on this incident.

A democrat would have shared the fish. No, he's got to be a Republican!

I was told the difference between a Republican and a Democrat was this ... a Republican will take you out for dinner and drinks and when the bill comes he will pay it.  If a Democrat takes you out for dinner and drinks, when the bill comes he hands it to the person at the next table to pay.

I heard the difference is that Republicans dislike Democrats and Democrats dislike Republicans.

It says all yoou can eat doesn't it. I only weigh about 125 but I can put it away and sometimes they look at me when I go to those places. The bigger guys get really looked at hard but I surprise them. But if they ran out of fish they should have kept serving and not just a few pieces. I go to buffets when I get really hungry and chow down so I feel his pain.

Wnovotny
Wnovotny

There's also a little something called self respect and not taking advantage of a situation.  It's guys like him, and you, who take advantage and end up ruining things for normal people who have to pay higher prices for a meal to make up for the gluttons of the world.

Wnovotny

I don't care who you are, 20 pieces of fish should be enough for anybody with common sense.  "All you can eat" should have stopped the minute he began giving fish to the friend who didn't order it.

Simply change the name to: All We Say You Can Eat! No Problem. Zangbam, from your discription of Mr. Wisth (idiot, ungrateful, fat, stupid and dishonest) he should consider a career in politics.

This man is in his twilight years and doesn't have very many to go.  I have never seen a 350 male live beyond 55.As for the restaurant, they have every right to limit this man appetite, his foraging is way beyond the human limits and ruins it for others who wan to enjoy a simple meal out.

It's jerks like this that give Wisconsin a bad name. He owes the restaurant money for more than a few meals there and is protesting after they said they gave him over 20 pieces of fish and said enough is enough. At 350 pounds he wont be around much longer to protest being cut off of deep fried fish. The fool found a crayon and some cardboard and decided to make a sign that a third grader would have done better. What's really sad is that the article was picked up by United Press and given national attention. I hope the restaurant decides not to let him back in until he pays his huge tab he has there.

Actually, Wisconsin Governor Scott Walker gives your state a bad name. Fatty McFishfry just gives the rest of us reason to point and laugh.

that's the sad part.  This ass will be around forever, and will be diabetic and have 10 stents put in and open heart surgery, and probably won't be able to pay for any of it.

The guy is a douche bag but its a valid point. Set aside all the details and the bottom line is that they ran out of fish, period! You dont run out of food at a buffet whether its 10 ppl or 10,000 ppl. False advertisement indeed.

Rdbytor7

Stop having the all you can eat fish and blame the idiot that wasted police time because he can't afford to feed his obese butt. Let the whole town blame him for ruining their good time since he is so pathetic and ignorant.

Wieman351

Restaurants should have limitations on all you can eat offers.  I was at an all you can eat seafood buffet when some fat slob  dump a whole bowl of shrimp onto his plate.  I mean this bowl was filled up to the top.  When he finished that he complained that there wasn't enough.  Fat slobs like that need to stay out of all you can eat buffets and let regular sized people have some.

Some people will make fun of him because he's f, ugly, etc. And whatever, thats cool. But i like his style. I dont care how awsome chucks Place is. In its purest form this is false advertising. If they run out of fish for all you can eat that's their own damn fault. Its not like this guy single handedly ate all their fish. They were obviously on the verge of running out before he eve showed up. Now they must deal with the bad press or make it right and give his money back.

ludwigtr
ludwigtr

Actually, you don't appear to know what false advertising is at all...

To establish that an advertisement is false, a plaintiff must prove five things: (1) a false statement of fact has been made about the advertiser's own or another person's goods, services, or commercial activity; (2) the statement either deceives or has the potential to deceive a substantial portion of its targeted audience; (3) the deception is also likely to affect the purchasing decisions of its audience; (4) the advertising involves goods or services in interstate commerce; and (5) the deception has either resulted in or is likely to result in injury to the plaintiff.

This advertisement Maybe qualifies for #1...

If you like his style, then you must be fat, with an uncontrollable appetite. If you are ugly it has to do with your entitlement mentality. Put the restaurant in the role of your mom. Do you think she would have unlimited fish for a fat ass like him, or you. There is a LIMIT ass wipe.

From the article:"Still hungry, Wisth says he refused to pay his bill."

They can't "give his money back" because *he never paid for his food in the first place*.

So the guy got a free meal and has the gall to picket a place that let him run up a tab when he was short on cash. In it's purest form, this is theft.

And you like his style.

It appears it wasn't his first meal without paying either, they would let him run a tab???  How freaking ungrateful can one person be.  They don't kick him out for sharing with his friend, which we all know is a no-no on all you can eat buffet,  They offer him a replacement fish, as they were out...this does happen when folks like this guy goes in and cleans them out... and omg 20 pcs of fish... please, most folks I know are full after the 2nd maybe 3rd plate.  The guy is just a dirtbag looking for attention and a hand out...slack bastard..

If it is all you can eat - it better be all you can eat.  Saying you busted him for giving some to a friend is their get out of jail free card.  If that was the case, charge them both for all you can eat.  It's about time companies stand by what they advertise - there should have been a sign that said all you can eat until we run out of a particular fish.

green23
green23

Yes, because any restaurant that says "all you can eat" obviously has an infinite supply of food. If a million people show up, they should be prepared for that. And, if only ten show up, they should just lose a ton of money. Because the words "all you can eat" are a sacred bond.

I guess that they should have a five-page contract that needs to be signed and notarised before anyone orders a meal.

He already skated on his check. He got a free meal. What more could this guy reasonably expect the restaurant to do?

OK, he is overweight (needs to work  on that, and so do restraurants that promote the idea of volume deals) and is dishonest by sharing (better grounds for challenging his presence in the establishement), but he does have a point. All you can eat should be as advertised -- not all you can eat untill we start losing money and claim to be fresh out....

Cat_deal2001
Cat_deal2001

No. All you can eat applies to normal people with NORMAL appetites. Not pigs like him or YOU.

ludwigtr

I agree, legally it would apply to a 'reasonable person' which this man, was not.

green23

He refused to pay, so he got a rather large meal (if not "all that he can eat") for absolutely nothing. It's a pretty safe bet that he didn't tip his server, either, if he refused to pay.

As the article notes, the restaurant let this guy run up a tab when he was short on cash. They didn't have to do that. They cut him some slack.  But, when it comes to *this guy* cutting *the restaurant* some slack, he turns into some petty asshole who throws a tantrum to get his way.

Decievious Leroy Johnston Jr.
Decievious Leroy Johnston Jr.

Like I said, he must be a democrat.  He thinks that he should get free shit for nothing.  He doesn't care that other patrons of the restaurant are paying hard-earned money to eat there, but somehow he feels "entitled" to free food.  And when the food runs out, he will probably contact the ALCU.  At least all this guy did was protest. If this were an all-you-can-eat fried chicken joint in North Minneapolis, and they ran out of chicken, riots would probably break out.  Not to mention flash mobs.

LOL!

Fresh out or not, he violated the terms of the fish fry.  They also offered to make him more fish. This guy is an asshole, plain and simple, and as a result of this article, the next time I go to that part of Wisconsin, I will be a patron of this establishment.

Also, it said "all you can eat", which, I'm guessing wasn't defined, meaning that "all you can eat" in accordance to the business was "all you can eat until we tell you that you can't eat anymore" or "all you can eat until you've had your reasonable fill" or...

My cell phone company did that to me with "$5 off for life".  Unfortunately for me they did not define what "life" meant.  Life of the contract, life of my phone, life of the company, my existence...

that is his story, but the restaurant is claiming they offered him an alternative even after they discovered he gave a ton of fish to his friend... so per the restaurant, they held up their end of the bargain...

Did they? Not too sure that they did? More likely they used up all the old fish and didn't want to use the fresh stuff.  If they caught someone eating the fish, they should have just charged them both.  Done deal.

@Jonny:disqus, did you read the article: "According to the restaurant, the server politely informed Wisth they were out of the fish Chuck's was serving as part of the all-you-can-eat promotion, but offered to fry up some 'more expensive fish' to make up for the inconvenience."

The restaurant not only offered him more fish but a more expensive fish than what they were using for the promotion.
