James Stevenson arrested after trying to rob undercover Eagan cop with pellet gun

Stevenson got a little careless in his choice of robbery victims.
James Stevenson's one-man crime spree came to an end after he picked the wrong victim to mess with.

A little after 9 p.m. last Thursday, police set up a perimeter around the 3300 block of Coachman Road in Eagan following reports of two robberies in the area. No sooner had a plainclothes detective arrived on scene than a man matching the description of the robber approached him, reaching for something on his waistband.

The detective identified himself as police, prompting Stevenson to drop what turned out to be a pellet gun and run away. He was apprehended after a short foot chase.

Stevenson allegedly wasn't brandishing a pellet gun just for show -- police say he pistol-whipped his first Thursday-night victim in the head. In both cases Stevenson demanded the victims fork over the contents of their wallets at gun point.

Police say Stevenson is lucky he wasn't shot by officers.

"When you display a firearm, or even a replica, it can be construed as deadly force," Eagan Police Chief Jim McDonald told Eagan Patch. "If he had displayed that gun to an officer, the officer probably would've shot him."

Stevenson is cooling his heels in Dakota County Jail and faces a felony aggravated robbery charge. He could spend 20 years in prison. He's also under investigation for possible connections to several robberies that occurred earlier this year in Eagan.

Was this a non-racially charged, relatively humorous post that actually relates to the article?

My world doesn't make sense today....

This guy is a dumb black guy who should have been shot b the police officer.  Look at how dumb he looks.  I bet his parents, probably on welfare and begging for money - look like this too.  Crimes committed with replicas should be dealt with the same as those carrying a weapon.  Shot first, arrest later.  It would be nice if all the victims could approach him and take shots with his pellet gun at him!

Eagan PD are hardworking professionals who do a great job and treat everyone equally and with respect.  They're a part of why the city of Eagan was in the top 20 of CNN/Money's 'Top 100 Places to live' year after year...even after nearby Burnsville and Lakeville dropped off after the housing crisis (Apple Valley hung on too, but that's another story).  In fact, they showed up so frequently they changed the population rules so the list would start reading differently.  Of course, I've never personally had to deal with them in years; but I'd see them patrolling neighborhoods, keeping the streets safe enough to jog on well after dark.  And the people I'd pass--also on paths, also after dark--would feel safe, too.

So there you have it folks:  A black man saluting the police.  It happens.
