John Kriesel destroys Rep. Mary Kiffmeyer for "no courage" remark during radio appearance

Kriesel turned Kiffmeyer into his own personal punching bag during a KFAN appearance.
Rep. Mary Kiffmeyer, R-Big Lake, still hasn't responded to the firestorm she created last week by saying disabled and decorated war veteran John Kriesel has "no courage."

But Kriesel, a retiring MNGOP Representative from Cottage Grove, isn't pulling any punches in letting people know what he thinks about Kiffmeyer.

During an appearance on Dan Barreiro's KFAN radio show yesterday, Kriesel said he could "care less" about Kiffmeyer, adding that she embodies "the two-faced nature of politics."

Asked whether he'd like to see or talk to Kiffmeyer again, Kriesel said:

I really could care less about Mary Kiffmeyer. I could care less to speak to her again, or if I see her, whatever. My feelings aren't hurt. It just shows the lack of class she has and the two-faced nature of politics, and she's a shining example of that.
Kriesel, who had his legs blown off by a bomb in Iraq in 2006, said that he didn't necessarily interpret Kiffmeyer's remark in light of his war experience.

Kiffmeyer has stayed silent while enduring a PR beating.

"I don't think it takes courage to drive over a bomb. I didn't purposefully drive over a bomb and lose my legs," he said. "What I did was no more courageous than what all my other buddies did over there."

He also suggested that if he could do it over again, he might keep the contents of Kiffmeyer's 'no clue and no courage' email to himself.

"I maybe could've taken a higher road, and in hindsight maybe would've treated it a little different myself," he said. "But if that's what makes her feel good, saying stuff like that, then more power to her."

Meanwhile, a call and voice mail left on Kiffmeyer's home phone on Monday still hasn't been returned. Assuming she's still planning to run for the Minnesota Senate this November (our best and brightest!), doesn't Kiffmeyer have to address the Kriesel controversy at some point?

When ever I hear Kiffmeyer's name, I'm reminded of this:  http://bit.ly/jfVEwV "Was Mary Kiffmeyer Lying Then,Or Is She Lying Now?"

And I'll never forget the "artwork" that adorned her failed bank's wall; I call it "Jesus At The Closing Table"

So I'm not surprised Keffmeyer ripped Kriesel and showed no class in doing so; by equating Jesus as condoning the business done at her failed bank, Keffmeyer forever sealed the deal on classlessness.

Mary Kiffmeyer is very representative of the MN GOP caucus.  Remember, only a decade ago, when she was a right-wing nut?  Now she's middle-of-the-road in that party, they've gone so far over the edge.  The real problem is they've been taken over by sadists.  That was a very predictable outcome of the confluence of militarists, corporatists and religious fundamentalists. The sadists get involved because hurting people turns them on, and in an environment like today's GOP, they can get the backing of every authoritarian system in our society.  Throughout history, that's where you'll find the sadists; the Inquisition, every fascist movement, the violent communists, outlaw corporate behavior; chock-full of sadists.  Now they're cloaking themselves as populists, but it's the same old nativist cover for sadism.  Look at Joe Arpaio, the Phoenix sheriff.  He claims he's not a racist, and I believe him.  He's just a sadist, and right now where he is a sadist can get away with tormenting Mexicans.  If he were someplace else he'd be tormenting whomever is the group that can least resist him there.

Mary Kiffmeyer fits right in with Brodkorb, Koch, Hoffman, Dean (Matt and Bradlee) and all the rest of them.  Sadists, every one of them.

I'm a solid left-winger and I am sad to see Rep. Kriesel go.  It's not just that his positions are most likely relatively closer to mine than the rest of his caucus, but I admire his candor, yes his courage, at the capitol.  Also, Mary Kiffmeyer can suck it.  As the sponsor of the ID Amendment, I would love to see both her and her amendment go down in flames.

I'm glad she called him on the carpet over the stadium.  Just because he got his legs blown off fighting a bulls**t war doesn't make him immune from critisism. I don't know who supports using taxpayer funds to build a stadium because I sure haven't met one, and yet they keep trying to ram this thing down our throats.  Do I like Mary Kiffmeyer? No, but I don't like John Kriesel either.  Was it a poor choice of words? No. She didn't say he had no courage at all, she said he had no courage to run again.  Have you ever said "I don't have any money to go to the show."  Did you actually mean that you have absolutely no money at all, or just didn't have money allocated to spend on a show?

Kiffmeyer needs to address the controversy? What are you talking about?!  This isn't even newsworthy, let alone controversial. Nitpicking over word choice? Whipping out the disabled vet card? This doesn't have anything to do with his "service" in Iraq, this has to do with the BS stadium bill.  Quit turning into something that it's not.

The fact that he even published the email makes me really glad he's not running again.  Anybody who needs to go crying to the interwebs when they receive critisism shouldn't be in office to begin with.

Mary, I can't stand you... but good job on this one.John, if I ever had any respect for you...   it's gone now.

It's a shame he's retiring.  His level of candor, which usually revealed common sense and actual humanity and humility, is a rare thing in politics.  He'll be missed.

Nothing says "courage" like an anonymous coward applauding a morally bankrupt Tea Partyer for defaming a decorated war veteran.

Your outrage over John Kriesel's work on the Vikings stadium is ridiculous. Kriesel has accomplished more in his one term as a state representative than Mary Kiffmeyer did as a legislator and secretary of state. Furthermore, she stretched the truth about the stadium bill being rushed through the Legislature.

The Vikings have been working on this issue forever and did everything they were asked to do. Yet Kiffmeyer, Zellers, and others continued putting up roadblocks to get this issue resolved (and yes, a new stadium is needed) in a political attempt to blame Dayton for everything (just like Congress is doing to Obama right now). And now she and other stadium opponents are throwing temper tantrums because they got beat.

Stop enabling the stupidity of our elected officials. It's people like Kiffmeyer that insist on keeping our state mediocre instead of forward-thinking.

She didn't defame anybody. She sent him a personal email calling him out for his crappy decisions.  Something we should all be doing with our representatives on a regular basis.  The only reason he was defamed is because he went whining to the internet about it.  HE was the one who made a private correspondence public, not her.  The fact that he is a decorated war veteran has no bearing on the situation at all. What are you trying to say? That "decorated war veterans" are above reproach? Are we not allowed  to express our criticisms to "decorated war veterans?"  Are they really so sensitive? I would think a "decorated war veteran" would be made of tougher stuff than that and be able to take criticism without whining to the whole world about it.  Geez, I sure hope I've never unwittingly sent off one of my letters of disapproval to a decorated war veteran.  I'd hate to have my political aspirations derailed because I didn't tip-toe around the issue to avoid offending their apparently delicate sensibilities.

Worn Sprocket, Kriesel called her out for lying in her letter to colleagues about the deal being rushed through. Need I go back to the my first post and point out that the Vikings have been working on this issue for a long time? In fact, the first time they really spent an entire legislative session dealing with this was this one, and committee meetings took place last November. The Vikings did everything legislators asked them to do, and it still wasn't good enough for legislators like Kiffmeyer, who were more interested in putting it off for next year or setting the team up for a move and causing an embarrassment to Gov. Dayton - neither of which shows courage nor leadership.

Not wanting to hear this, Kiffmeyer decided to pout and throw out the "you don't have any courage" line for not running for re-election and wanting to spend time with his family - something he hasn't been able to do since he left for Iraq. So stop being intellectually dishonest in this debate. You are being just as much of the problem and enabling the stupidity of Kiffmeyer and others.

If one wishes to avoid appearing crass, one should avoid questioning the courage of a decorated war vet in any context.
