Michele Bachmann is making shit up in her latest fundraising e-mail

Bachmann isn't letting the facts get in the way of a good yarn.
Today, Slate points out a few absurd fabrications contained in Michele Bachmann's May 8 fundraising appeal to prospective donors.

We wouldn't expect politicians to be above bending the truth to their advantage, but Bachmann's claims are more akin to taking the truth and snapping it in two.

Recent polling suggests Bachmann's popularity in Minnesota took a beating as a result of her ill-fated presidential run, and she faces a stiff challenge this November in the form of Democrat Jim Graves, a wealthy, business-savvy and worker-supported Democrat. So she's apparently pulling out all the stops in hopes of filling up her campaign coffers.

Here's what Bachmann says in her recent fundraising e-mail:
A major development has just occurred in my race for the U.S. House of Representatives and I'm asking for your immediate help... You see, in retaliation for repeatedly standing up to President Obama on the national stage, liberal judges have redrawn the lines of my Minnesota Congressional District to try and wipe me off of the political map once and for all.
First off, by "just occurred," Bachmann apparently means 'occurred nearly three months ago.' The redistricting maps were released on February 21.

More importantly deceptive, however, is Bachmann's claim that "liberal judges" redrew her congressional district "to try and wipe me off of the political map once and for all." As Slate notes, redistricting became the duty of a panel only after the MNGOP-controlled legislature and Gov. Mark Dayton failed to agree on a map. Politics in Minnesota described the panel of five judges as "independent," with members appointed by Minnesota Supreme Court Justice Lorie Gildea.

More from Bachmann's e-mail:
Avidor Marcus and Michele.jpeg
Gerrymandered out of their home district, Michele and Marcus became Swiss citizens.
Their bias was so obvious they even gerrymandered my home -- where my wonderful husband Marcus and I live -- entirely out of my District and placed it into one held by a six-term Democrat incumbent!
Um... you had a choice of which district to run in, Michele. In fact, the same day the redistricting map was unveiled, Bachmann released a statement saying "I'm announcing today that I will be running in the 6th Congressional District." She could've run in the 4th District had she preferred but was no doubt scared she didn't stand a chance running in a more urban district represented by strong, longtime Democratic incumbent Betty McCollum.

You can't make it up... unless you're Michele Bachmann. In which case, apparently you can, and perhaps even wrangle up some campaign contributions in the process.

"She could've RAN...(emphasis added)."  Good grief, you are right about Bachmann but get a grammar book!

Making things up is what good politicians have always done.

Do you remember hearing: Give me the trillion and I will keep unemployment under 8%. Or the one that my president was a criminal for spending almost 4 trillion in debt in 8 years but now has spent over 5 trillion in deficit spending in 4 years. How about I will create or save millions of jobs?

The current president has allowed over 5,000,000 legal foreign workers to come into the country during his four years. He doesn't care about the unemployed.

There's nothing "cool" about Barack Obama's failed presidency. President Obama can slow-jam the news all he wants, but it doesn't change the fact that zero net jobs have been created under his watch. Not one.

so you equate predictions with MB lies about what actually happened? So the fact that Obama cannot predict the future and MB cannot accurately state the past as exactly the same? BTW-Obama has deported a record number of illeagal aliens-a number much more verifiable than your 5,000,000 illegal workers.

Read what I write. I said LEGAL not Illegal. It is in the governments (Obama's) own numbers of various Legal Visas granted at 1,250,000 per year for foreign workers to come into the US to work with 15% unemployment.

OBAMA has deported 340,000 illegals. Meanwhile a record 34,000 illegals were detained that were not from Mexico (they were from the middle east, Irag, Iran, Turkey and south america. I do credit obama for stopping the flow of mexican illegals since there are no jobs. Obama has not created ONE NET NEW JOB since he came into office.

Obama ran for president and promised to keep unemployment under 8%. It has been above 8% every month since he got his stimulus passed. Now for his re-election he is fudging the numbers and 8 states are dropping off the 99 week program. Millions of sufferring Americans will lose their unemployment because of Obama.

Ludwigtr: You are such a small minded bigot and probably a racist. Unemployment is earned via working and is not a handout.

Get your head out of Obama's a$$. He is playing with the unemployment numbers to make it look like he is fixing the problem. By doing so, Obama is also dropping all the people in at least 8 states off the 99 week unemployment program. Just throwing them under the bus for political expediency and personal gain.

If all you have is personal bigotted dialogue like "you people" then stfu.

I thought you people thought unemployment was a handout for entitled people and they should go get jobs.  Why don't you think that people not getting unemployment is a good thing?Or is it a bad thing now cause it fits your narrative now, and it's a bad thing when it doesn't fit your narrative?

What an embarrassment to the great state of MN.  Hope she moves down south somewhere, like Alabama or Mississippi.  She represents their ultra conservative views.

Sadly, City Pages missed the two biggest points undercutting Bachmann's claims:

1) The redistricting actually made Minnesota's sixth congressional district even more conservative than it was before. 2) Justice Gildea, the judge who headed the panel to redraw the lines, is actually a Republican appointee.

You don't need the last six words of your headline.

All Michele Bachmann has ever done is to "Make Shit Up."  Remember the Scandia Lesbian Bathroom Captivity?  Remember how she had to fix her shoe in the shrubbery at the GLAAD rally at the State Capitol?  The Vaccines Cause Disabilities caper?

Even her story of how she came to run for Stillwater School Board, at the very beginning of her career, is a pack of lies.  That's all she ever does is lie.  People call her on it, but she never faces any real consequences for it.   She has a plan, and she follows it to the letter every time.  Step 1: Lie.  Make up a real whopper that gets a lot of attention.  Step 2: Attack the integrity of anybody who calls her on it.  Step 3: Play the victim when anybody continues to call her on it.  Step 4: Send out a fundraising letter claiming to be the victim of a conspiracy.  Step 5: return to Step 1.

She'll keep doing it as long as people keep voting for her, and as long as corporate and religious fundamentalists keep sending her money.  Why change your act when it's still killing at the box office?

Time to move to Switzerland!!

Maybe she can try to take up arms and combat the lightbulb efficiency problem there...

Perhaps her ultimate goal is to become one of the Swiss (Helvetian) guards at the Vatican.  That would be a perfect job for her.  Of course, she'd have to shut up first.
