Minnesota man arrested while mowing lawn in loincloth, swearing around children

Get this man some pants!
It's a free country and all, but there are still limits.

That lesson was learned the hard way on Wednesday afternoon by Matthew Swanson, a 43-year-old resident of Fergus Falls. Swanson was hauled to jail just before 5 p.m. after a neighbor reported that he was mowing his lawn in a loincloth. NIMBY, indeed!

Swanson, clad in his too-revealing cloth, was also allegedly swearing near a daycare with children present. He was arrested for disorderly conduct.

The neighbor told police that the profanity-uttering, loincloth-wearing Swanson had "partially exposed himself" while mowing. When officers arrived, Swanson wouldn't stop shouting obscenities and ended up being hauled away in cuffs.

It sounds like Swanson woke up on the wrong side of the bed Wednesday. Before the lawn mowing incident, he had already been cited for making harassing phone calls, including calling the Fergus Falls Police Department and swearing at employees.

Perhaps he needs to have his mouth washed out with soap... and for the love of God, buy a pair of pants too.

Take back our rights as american citizens. We wont have any rights if we dont defend them.

Women can walk down the road in Bikinis? Why cant he walk around in a loin cloth? AND for the swearing... He was in his own yard.. What gives the police the right to go on his land and tell him what he can or cant say. As for the children. If the parents were worried about the environment that their kids were in at the school then they have the right to move them out of that school. Reality sucks but..... YOU CANT TAKE AWAY SOMEBODYS RIGHTS TO MAKE SOMEONE ELSE FEEL AT EASE. I would be pist off and cussing cops to if they came in my yard and told me to talk differently and to change my cloths... Another reason people should not be afraid to shoot the cops

They let the noise complaint slide which was nice, blaring Stranglehold on 8 Track out of your Trans Am is a right, not a privilege.

This guy sounds and looks like he might be a paranoid schizophrenic. Maybe he's out of meds?

Please expand on this free country concept you speak of.

Come to MPLS and ride the bus. Hundreds of people every day have their asses hanging out of their pants and they talk about killing and stealing while openly selling drugs on the bus but no police would dare to charge them with indecent exposure. Maybe I should move to Fergus where people actually take disturbing behavior seriously. Civilization sounds great.

so we allow porn shops to open across the street from elementary schools because it's their corporate right and their right to freedom, blahblahblah...but  one guy in his own yard? Nope. Hm.

So if your house is too close to a school or daycare, you cannot walk around your own yard nude? Seriously? And he wasn't even nude, could have been a loose pair of underwear. This shit has gone too far, if you don't like what you see, TURN YOUR HEAD.

Sounds like a stand-up patriot to me. There is nothing wrong with storming around your yard in a loin-cloth and cussing it up a bit. I march around my outdoor balcony in Cambodia in boxer shorts all day long. You can bet your ass the police here have better things to worry about than a semi-nude white dude cussing it up in his undies.

And where would you get your prognosis Dr Go Ca? A man wears something light out to do physical labor and he is crazy? On the same point people swear all the time when they are upset. How does this in any way make him 'Mentally ill'?  Whats mentally ill is the fact that this man was in his own yard and got arrested for talking the way that he wanted to talk. Thats not mentally ill. Even if he was screaming it is his right to do so. That's him exercising his american right of freedom of speech. It makes me sick that people are even thinking that he is wrong. HE IS IN HIS OWN YARD!!!!!! How would you like if someone came to your house and said that you could not say the word "work" at your house, and if you did you would go to jail.. Same thing just different word. The police have over stepped the laws that are suppost to protect us from them!

I don't think it is a right, it falls under Disturbing the Peace in most states, But it is officers discretion usually.

The porn shops are usually obligated to keep children out, this man was out in the open where the children could see him...

If you're allowing your dangle to hang out(which he was reported to have been doing), they probably should do something otherwise, I would actually totally agree with you...

Being loud is only disturbing the peace between certian hours. And as long as you are in your yard in middle of day you have the Constitutionally protected right to scream FUCK as much or as often or as loud as you want.

And then I would give the bear a dollar and it would go away. I think you don't understand exactly how things work down here. Living the dream, in my undies, on my balcony in Phnom Penh.

Laura are you saying you think the sight of a penis is dangerous or damaging?
