First of all to the idiots who mention the child faking, i cant imagine being 70 pounds at 15 years old, grossly underweight is the understatement of the century here.

Second of all, people who are abused, trapped, assaulted, brainwaished experience something called Stockholms Syndrome in as little as 48 hours people can be brainwashed in fear of their lives not to leave. Can you imagine the life this poor girl endured?

Third of all, i couldn't resist mentioning the likelihood of this broad being a "Flight Risk" is probably as likely as i am going to get struck by lightnig at my desk.

Sad all around, i hope this child finds therapy and a foster family who can bring her back to health (mentally and physically)

That is ridiculous in itself..Just because he was honorably discharged from the military does not make him a saint. 600 pound couple? First of all, what does their weight have to do with anything. Second, assuming their weight is significant, why are you giving the combined weight of the pair. Make no mistake, I feel no sympathy for these two. I just can't help but notice that whenever a fat person gets in the papers the papers feel the need to point at the fatness. You will never see a headline "185 pound man robs convenience store".

hello, their weight has EVERYTHING to do with why this story is significant because they were all overly well fed but the girl was 70 lbs. 70 fucking pounds! When I was 15 I was skinny as a rail at almost 6 feet but even then I weighed over 115 lbs. Little kids that are half that height should be around 70 lbs. But a 15 year old? Unless she is missing her legs even for a petite little girl that is VASTLY underweight.

There are plenty of times fat people commit crimes and their weight is never mentioned-so it sounds you are being overly sensitive here. Since this crime is about food, access to food and being locked up and unable to eat-AND BEING FORCED TO EAT FECES at times when she was-why is this egregiously overfed whale's weight NOT an issue? Instead of booting the pedophile boy out of the house, they locked HER(the victim) in the basement WITHOUT FOOD, WITHOUT A TOILET. Sorry we live in a fat phobic society but if that alone is blinding you to why these people's weight is pertinent to the case, you are not paying close enough attention.

I don't think I'm being oversensitive. I'm not really being sensitive at all. I was merely asking a question that occurred to me. But I'll say it clearer. The couple starved and abused that poor girl because they were evil people, not because they were fat evil people, so why point out that they are fat? They want people like you to draw lines in your head and come to the conclusion that the fat people were eating her food. That would be a better story. But they don't present any evidence to that. At no point did the article say that they ate her share. They could have fed her too. They didn't because they're evil. The paper just said fat and waited for you to juice the story up in your head. That way they can pretend they have the story they want and they can't be sued for libel. If they had sat on the poor kid, their weight would matter. In a case like this it's just sensationalism.

Okay. I see your point, and I think you've seen mine. I'm still baffled by why they call them a 600 pound couple, though. I mean, if the man weighed 95 pounds and the woman weighed 505 they would be a 600 pound couple. Giving the total weight of a group of people in a case like this gives you a bigger, yet less useful, number.

In that respect, no. her weight doesn't have anything to do with her situation but her crimes are centered around the withholding of food from a young growing girl. Not for one minute did I ever make the assumption about who ate whose portion of food, only that a women who clearly has no problem feeding and even over feeding herself sees fit to starve one member of her family while feeding everyone else in the home without incident. At minimum, its makes her crime ironically difficult to fathom, outside the obviousness of their evil. Without hearing her talk-their excuses in print have been bad enough-making every possible excuse including health related issues such as diabetes as to why she was not taking proper care of this girl. I don't think fat in itself is bad, and I don't think fat people are 'bad' or even unhealthy just because they are fat-there is too much about case by case basis differences. But if you can stuff your face to maintain that type of body-poor nutrition combined with inactive lifestyle choices while there is a starving child in the basement-you deserved to be called out. Saying that mention of her weight is sensationalism misses the point that it makes the abuse covered in the story even harder to imagine-and while it may not be 'kind' its a fact.

She was 15 years old and 70 pounds, that's all I need to know. If my daughter was as "disturbed" as they are making her out to be and refusing food I would be doing absolutely everything I could to ensure she got help and was fed long before she reached that level. I don't believe in pronouncing guilt prematurely, but these people make my skin crawl.
