Whatever you do, don't tweak that balky knee, officers. The Vikings have $100 million riding on it.

If you thought Adrian Peterson would simply plead guilty to a misdemeanor charge of resisting arrest and move on with his life, think again.

AP has hired superstar defense attorney Rusty Hardin to defend him, and Hardin has already gone on the attack against the Houston police.

Hardin, 70, won a favorable U.S. Supreme Court ruling for accounting firm Arthur Andersen in the midst of the Enron scandal. He's also represented and won favorable rulings for athletes such as Rudy Tomjanovich, Warren Moon, Wade Boggs, Rafer Alston, Scottie Pippen, Steve Francis, and Calvin Murphy. He was last seen representing Roger Clemens during his seemingly never-ending obstruction of justice trial. Clemens was finally acquitted on all charges on June 18.

Meanwhile, TMZ obtained some rather low-quality cell phone video footage of AP's Saturday morning arrest at Houston's Live! at Bayou Place. Here it is:

That clip doesn't tell us much, but Hardin certainly does. In a statement released Monday, he came to AP's defense with guns a-blazin':
Adrian Peterson did not resist arrest this past Saturday morning and any suggestion that he pushed, struck or shoved a Houston Police Officer is a total fabrication... He, in fact, was struck at least twice in the face for absolutely no legitimate reason, and when all the evidence is impartially reviewed, it will clearly show Adrian was the victim, not the aggressor.
And this:

AP, trying to put the best face on his arrest.
We have been investigating what happened since Saturday afternoon, and it is absolutely clear to me that the charges should not have been filed, and the Bayou Club owes Adrian an apology for having put out a totally false version of what happened... Adrian Peterson does not act the way he has been described in the initial reports, and he did not act that way Saturday morning. He was only in that club for 30 to 40 minutes, was never objectionable to other patrons, and never physically resisted any police officer.
And finally this:
Adrian is extremely upset about these false allegations... These charges are totally at odds with the way he has conducted himself throughout his career, and he asks that his fans and the public at large reserve judgment until they hear all the facts. Adrian looks forward to his day in court.
Perhaps AP is worried he could lose endorsements if he has a misdemeanor conviction on his record? In any event, Hardin is clearly aiming to keep AP's record clean (minus a speeding ticket here and there). His first court appearance is scheduled for Friday, and you can bet Hardin will keep his guns a-firin' until AP is exonerated.
