Last winter, Rep. Mary Franson, R-Alexandia, made a name for herself by comparing food stamp recipients to wild animals in a video posted on the House Republican's YouTube channel.

The comparison was quickly condemned by nearly everyone on both sides of the aisle, and Franson, after some initial defiance, apologized for her comments, tweeting: "For those offended at the video, I deeply apologize. I have asked for the video to be taken down."

But in a recent speech before a Tea Party rally in Browerville, Franson sure left onlookers with the impression that her apology fell somewhere short of sincere.

During her speech, Franson first recounts her food stamp recipient-wild animal comparison and discusses some of the blowback she received afterward. Then, she pivots to defending her controversial comments, saying, "We have to get backbones, you guys."

Here's a transcript of how she closed her speech:

Franson speaks to tea partiers in Browerville.
I received death threats over [the food stamp-wild animal] comments. I received 2,500 petitions for me to apologize for my comments, and also I received numerous requests for me to resign immediately.

Well, that didn't happen, and I'm more determined than ever to win this race because I see the entitlement programs, they're getting bigger. Today apparently President Obama said, 'Who cares about the welfare reform that was done in '95 until Bill Clinton, because there is going to be no work requirements, it's going to be up to the states to decide.' We have 80 billion dollars worth of food benefits that the government doesn't have any idea what it's being spent on. We have people that don't want to work anymore. We have people that are going for interviews to jobs and actually telling those they are interviewing with, 'Well, my unemployment may be extended so I guess that I'll just stay home instead of taking this job.'

Fifty-one percent are paying taxes today compared to 85 percent [of Americans] in 1995. This is unsustainable and soon we're going to have more people not paying taxes than are paying taxes. We have to get backbones, you guys. We have to be strong and we can't keep cowering to the left because of what they may say, or [because you may be] heckled. Because if I can stand up to some death threats, and if I can stand out there in St. Paul for you, then we all need to get together and take on the left before they destroy us from the inside out.
Check out the video of Franson's speech for yourself:

"We all need to get together and take on the left before they destroy us from the inside out"? Apparently, Franson takes that whole 'politics is war' thing pretty literally.

The Bemidji Pioneer got some reaction from Zach Rodvold, the DFL House campaign director, who pointed out the irony of Franson, the Minnesota House Representative for one of the state's poorest districts, taking a draconian stance on poverty. "A recent study showed that 21 percent of children in Todd County, where part of her district is located, are living in poverty and that 13.5 percent receive food stamps," Rodvold said in an email.

Franson, a first-term legislator who recently filed a restraining order Eric Harpel, her ex-boyfriend and the chair of the McLeod County MNGOP, is being challenged this November by DFL-endorsee Bob Cunniff, a veteran public school teacher from Alexandria.

I think the solution to the Welfare problem is to pour more money into it.  Obviously, free food, free housing, free utilities, free job placement assistance, free public transportation, free job training, free health care, free cell phones, free computers, are not working.  We also need to abolish the 5-year Welfare term limit.  Welfare should be a lifelong entitlement program.  In order for a Welfare state to thrive, people must be constantly dependent on the Government, otherwise it will fail.  Our goal is to have 100% of the population dependent on Government assistance. This way, the Government will be in full control of the population.  Also, we need to ban guns, so that people cannot stand up to the Government.  Guns are a threat to the Government's control of the people.  Ask the people in Syria.

Yes, I am being sarcastic.

But I have one question for all of you, including the author of this article.

According to Franson: "Fifty-one percent are paying taxes today compared to 85 percent [of Americans] in 1995".  If this is in fact true, (and if it is not, please provide us some data to prove otherwise), imagine if a corporation operated this way:  Imagine if only 51% of a company's workforce actually contributed to the company's production output, while 49% sat and did nothing all day, yet were still getting paid?  That company would go bankrupt in a week.  That is how our Government is operating today.  I don't care if you are a (D) or an (R), our country cannot continue operating this way.  You can't dig money out of your ass.  We cannot continue pouring money into social programs that DO NOT WORK.  We are already in massive debt, and it is only going to get worse unless something is done about it and FAST.

I am not agreeing with Franson when she compares Welfare recipients with wild animals, but I do agree with her insinuation that when people become dependent on the Government, it gives them no incentive to better themselves.  Why would a person with little to no education and job skills want to work at Target for $7.50/hr when they could simply collect Government assistance, which provides them with not only spending money, but also free shelter, utilities, health care, and many other benefits?  If I were in that situation, I'd say to hell with working!  While that may benefit me personally, it does not benefit our nation; all it does is drag the country down.

I heard today on WCCO that high school students in Minnesota are being awarded diplomas despite them not being able to pass the basic requirements in math skills.  They are, according to the report, given a "waiver" and are rewarded the diploma anyway.  What does this say about our State's educational system?  They are basically saying, "well, you are not qualified for a Diploma....but we'll give you one anyway!".  And how are these students expected to pass an ACT test to gain admission into College?  Well, the answer is, they won't.  This is simply another extension of the Welfare system: Because these same students who are being "waivered off" will become the next generation of Welfare recipients. Why?  Because the educational system basically told them, "well, you didn't bother to pay attention in math (which by the way is a skill that required in even the most basic of jobs, independent of pay),  but we will reward you with the same diploma that other students worked hard to attain."

It is this same mindset that chronic welfare collectors have: I didn't earn it, but I am entitled to it anyway.

This is wrong on so many levels.  And people wonder why America is going down the toilet.

I guess her previous apology didn't mean much to her. Probably can't trust anything else she says either.

@TaxPayer You are a heartless and cruel person who has no idea what he is talking about.  People like you are ruining the country.  I can tell by your paragraph you wouldn't be able to graduate these days either.  I love that you type a fucking book yet offer no solutions or logical thought.  So out of curiousity what are you going to do with the children that rely on welfare for food?   What is your plan there super brain?

@Enough Every Republican is a crazy idiot that constantly says stupid things these days.   Louie Gohmerht said Aurora was caused by attacks on Christianity and Allen West said Obama wants people to be slaves.  When are people going to stop pretending we have two functioning parties?  The Republicans are not fit to run a Super America much less the government.  Until they change people need to pull their heads out of their asses.    Michele Bachmann, Rick Santorum, Herman Cain, Donald Trump, Rick Perry, and Mitt Romney are the start of a good insane aslyum softball team not good presidential contenders.  What a joke.

@MicheleBachmann Least intelligent comeback ever. Why would you keep putting faith in something that continually fails you?

@MicheleBachmann If you want to see the reality of Welfare and the people who collect it, go take a visit to the Hennepin County Human Services Center located in Century Plaza in Downtown Minneapolis.  You will notice many people who are waiting for their name to be called sitting and playing on their Blackberries and I-phones.  I work for a living and even I cannot afford an I-phone.  So apparently, welfare recipients are entitled to luxuries that I, as a tax payer who are supporting them, cannot even afford.  I guess this is the Liberal definition of "fair".

Well, since you are the mathematician, can you tell me what the anti-derivative of 2x+5 is?  Figured.  Ignorant people is as they are.  But I am sure you can tell all of the lyrics to Jay Z's songs.

@MicheleBachmann Maybe people should think twice before they have children?  I can't afford a Ferrari; therefore I don't buy one.  If I can't afford to have a baby; therefore I don't have one.  Common Sense.  Having children is NOT a right.  It is a privilege and a responsibility.  And please wash your mouth out with soap.  Your cuss language really makes you look ignorant..

@MicheleBachmann  @Enough And thanks to the GOP, Democrats can suck up to Wall Street's tit and still look good by comparison. Enough of the duopoly -- let's elect people who will do their job without this constant gum flapping and fear mongering.

@MicheleBachmann Our Government "kicks ass?"  really?  1.7 Trillion of dollars of debt (thanks to Obama), and now he wants to tax people even MORE with ObamaCare?  He wants tax payers to support 800,000 Illegal immigrants to live here and mooch off of the public services sector? We kick ass?  Um.....no, we don't.  And then, according to you, we should pour MORE money into a Welfare program which is an absolute FAILURE? Sorry, sweetie, but Social Entitlement Programs (for people who are not even entitled to them anyway) do make for a "kick-ass Government".  We need leadership now.  Not excuses.

So far Obama has only provided excuses for his failed Presidency.  We need a leader, not a whiner.  I never cared for Bush Jr. either, but NOT ONE TIME did he ever blame his mistakes on someone else.  Even HE admitted the war in Iraq was a mistake.

@MingTran What fails?  American government?  We are only the richest most powerful country on Earth.  If you don't think our government kicks ass move to Somalia.  They have no taxes, no gun control, and no regulation.  It's a conservative paradise.  Go see how that works for you stupid.

@MicheleBachmann Well, if money does work, then you are more than welcome to donate your entire paycheck to these mooches.  Because I will no longer support these people who think because they made bad decisions in life that somehow it is MY responsibility to pay for their mistakes.  And MY vote this fall will reflect that of MANY in this country.  The United Welfare States of America is OVER this coming November.  Just you wait, sweetie!

@TaxPayer Losers like you want to believe these racist myths about who is on welfare and how expensive it is.  No one wants to be on welfare.  I'm sure there are some dumb losers out there that make videos like that so dumb racists like you can pretend everyone on welfare is like that.  Children, veterans, and the elderly are welfare recipients.  So I repeat to you stupid racist moron.  How you going to feed starving children today?   You have no solutions.  Don't have kids. lol.  What an idiot.  There are kids stupid.  Feed them.  How?   Words don't work, money does stupid.

@TaxPayer  @MicheleBachmann You'd be surprise (obviously, because you refuse to see past the stereotype) that many of the people receiving benefits in NY, used to be upper middle-class white people, where the mom didn't have a job due to being a stay-at-home mom and there was only one breadwinner who lost his job about 4-5 years ago when so many others did, across the country.  I know because these are my neighbors, and I see them sneaking out their food stamp card at the register, left and right.  Stop using the worst example you can find, as if it represent everyone.

@TaxPayer Typical right-wing hypocrisy.  You've no right to have kids, but if you do get knocked up, you've no right to not have kids.

@TaxPayer Well dumbo they have children.  So saying they shouldn't doesn't fix the problem now.  So how are you going to feed starving children today  stupid?    What are you going to do?  Forced sterlizations?   Forced abortions?   I wouldn't call you stupid if you didn't say such stupid hateful things.  It's obvious you've never thought about this because you have stupid opinions and no grip on reality.   Tell me how you solve the starving children problem tomorrow and long term?

@mark.gisleson The only good politicians are Democrats.  If you donate money and work to get people like Elizabeth Warren Sherrod Brown, and Keith Ellison elected you will have a good government.  The last time I heard people complaining about how Dems and Republicans are exactly the same I got George W. Bush as president.  Say what you will about Al Gore, he wouldn't have put an idiot in charge of FEMA.
