Last week, when news broke that Michael Leisner was under criminal investigation for setting the grass outside General Mills' Twin Cities headquarters aflame while trying to light a box of Cheerios on fire, we wondered if the news could get any worse for the 65-year-old.

Tragically, it did. This morning, the Anoka County Medical Examiner's Office confirmed to City Pages that Leisner died on Saturday.

A medical examiner's employee said the Andover resident's cause of death has not yet been determined. For more information and to read an interview with his pastor, see our follow-up post: "Michael Leisner died in his car while his kids played tennis"

Brother Mike left this world the same way he went through life; “With both guns blazing!” - Leaving a clear path for everyone to follow. Mike knew that God hated sin, but loved sinners, and made a way for them through Jesus Christ to find eternal life. Mike lived his convictions right to the end and is now in the glorious presence of the Lord! - something no unrepentant sinner will ever experience. All you who think his death is funny - will stand in judgment.

If I've said it once I've said it a million times, "You don't fuck with General Mills"

Let us not forget about Sodom and Gomorah! Death to eternal life is better than life. Death to eternal death is not.

every aspect of this story is sad, from the beginning to this. what he said and did was wrong, stupid and offensive, we don't need to pour cereal into his families wounds with more hate speech. cheerio, you misguided unfortunate creature.

Sad, just goes to show that you can go anytime. Although I don't agree with his stance, sending prayers to his family regardless.

It was inept enough to have been staged.

According to the STrib, he died while sitting in his car waiting for his sons to finish playing tennis.  So I'm guessing heart attack or stroke.

General Mills off'd him. Straight up black ops style. Don't fuck with delicious whole grain cereals man.

This is really a shame. I was really hoping for much more free comedy from this guy for years to come.

I bet he is standing with Jesus right now, bitching about gays and how awful they are.  That sounds like something Jesus would be into.  He was filled with hate right?

This doesn't surprise me. May we all be more conscious of our actions...

@jonmarcbauer That's a sad ending. I feel a lot of empathy for the guy, he was clearly tormented by something.

Perhaps so, but I find that schadenfreude makes for a poor dance rhythm.

Interesting that the chick Gil a guy died too just weeks after their declaration of hate...

I enjoy dancing on people's graves. Especially those of jerks. You're morally better than me, but I'm a better dancer.

Brian LaBounty

We are respectful, Bob, because we are better than that. We don't refrain from dancing on people's graves because they deserve better, we refrain because WE deserve better.

Yeah, we should all be respectful of the homophobe now that he's dead because he wasn't respectful of his fellow man while he was alive. Makes sense.

I'm in no way celebrating the death of a human being, but who's surprised when people burn foods that lower cholesterol and then gorge themselves on chick-fil-a in protest of equal rights?

The way I see it is that he got what he wanted...to never live a day when gay marriage was legal in Minnesota.

This whole story was bizarre right up to the end. And bashing the guy in death is no better than him bashing homosexuals. Think people, you only diminish your cause when you stoop to his level. Sad, sad stuff, all around.

Definitely a suicide I'm sure........it's tragic, but at the same time you have to wonder........did the universe get involved with this one?

@MicheleBachmann Congratulations.  Let's antagonize the family because you disagree with the deceased.  That puts you right up there with the Westboro Baptist Church.

@_Joe_@MinneapolisMang  Just out of curiousity where are you when the Republicans make fun of the murdered black people on this site?  I read almost every story City Pages publishes and I've never seen you comment on those comments.  I've seen Republicans make racial slurs about dead children on this board.    Kirk the Conservative Jerk has mocked dead gay kids multiple times on this board and only a few of the liberals point that out.  I'm sorry this bigot died and his bigot family are really sad.  At least he got to die in his car instead of being brutally beaten to death like Mathew Shepard.  Do you think Michael Leisner dedicated his life to making sure Mathew Shepard would never happen again?  Or did he devote his life to make it more likely Mathew Shepard would happen again?  I will save my respect for people who don't devote their lives to using government to oppress people because of who they choose to love.

@jessikate Bizarre. I wonder if we can get Brad Dean to hang out in his car more. #Kidding
