Two weeks after successfully robbing a TCF Bank inside a Cub Foods in Fridley, the well-dressed Mr. Potato Head robber stuck again, this time in Minneapolis.
On Friday, the robber -- described as 45 to 55 years old, black, approximately 6 feet tall and about 200 pounds -- walked into the Guaranty Bank inside the Rainbow Foods at 1540 New Brighton Boulevard wearing a fake nose, heavy makeup, and a business-casual suit. He pointed a semi-automatic handgun at a teller and made off on foot with an undisclosed amount of cash. It was the sixth metro area bank robbery the man has been connected with.
Minneapolis Police Lieutenant Mike Fossum, speaking of last Friday's robbery, told the Star Tribune that Mr. Potato Head "appears to have a disguise on his face, one of those rubber noses you buy for Halloween."
Fossum added that the tellers at Guaranty were talking about the robber just before he strolled in and robbed the place.
The tellers "had seen the memo from corporate security" about the suspect, "and they were talking about what they would do, and lo and behold, here he comes in."
In the case of the July 20 robbery in Fridley, police characterized the suspect as having a goatee that is greying, but because of "noticeable face makeup," it wasn't clear whether the facial hair was real or fake.
