Dear Onion editors: No need to Onion-ize Bachmann's comments. She provides enough material as it is.

Sometimes, you can't make it up, and sometimes, you can.

Yesterday, the Onion published a probably-in-bad-taste story with this headline: "Michele Bachmann Thankful No Americans Died In Sikh Shooting." Believe it or not, some folks took the "report" seriously and seized upon it as another reason to blast Our Favorite Congressperson.

Here's the entirety of the Onion's story:
In response to the shooting death of six Sikh worshippers at a temple in Oak Creek, WI yesterday, Rep. Michele Bachmann (R-MN) offered a public expression of her thankfulness that no Americans had been killed in the rampage. "It's a relief and a blessing that not a single American died in this event," Bachmann said of the incident that claimed the lives of six Americans who practice the Sikh faith. "All of us can be grateful for that. Had the gunman targeted a church or synagogue, this violent act could have been much, much worse. There's no telling how many Americans might have died." Bachmann concluded by calling on citizens nationwide to direct all their thoughts and prayers to the family of wounded police lieutenant Brian Murphy, who was shot multiple times while rushing to help victims.
Condemnation of Bachmann's "remarks" followed fiercely and swiftly. Here are the Twitter replies to the Onion's story:

Tricky, reporting on the Onion story and the mistaken responses to it, goes with the headline: "Left, duped by Onion parody, condemns Michele Bachmann for reaction to shooting." That seems a little presumptuous to us. Better would've been: "The Twittersphere is more gullible than you think."
