Susan McCarty of Edina made nephew, 11, ride in trunk, didn't want to get Lexus' seats wet

Next time, pack a towel or change of clothes are spare yourself the trouble.
Susan McCarty took her 11-year-old nephew and his sister to Valleyfair on August 23. What a nice thing to do, right?

Well, it's not so nice when you allegedly make the poor little guy spend the ride home home in the trunk of your Lexus because you're worried his wet clothes might damage the leather seats.

But that's exactly what McCarty, 38, did, according to Shakopee police, and as a result, she could spend up to a year in prison and pay $3,000 in fines.

Shakopee Patch provides some details:
Shakopee Police were called to the Valleyfair parking lot Aug. 23 after witnesses observed a male child climb into the trunk of the car with two female adults standing by. Witnesses stated that after the adults entered the car, another child, his sister, left the car and shut the trunk. They did not see the boy leave the trunk, and they obtained the car's license plate.

Shakopee Police ran the plate, which indicated an Edina address. The Edina Police found the car and made a traffic stop. The boy was no longer in the car at the time of the stop.
Well, at least they didn't strap the kid to the roof, right?

And in fairness, McCarty and her nephew's grandmother (she was the other "adult female" along for the ride) didn't totally disregard the comfort and safety of the little boy. From Edina Patch:
The vehicle's back seat center console was allegedly folded down to allow air to circulate back to the trunk, according to the criminal complaint. When that didn't appear to be working and the boy complained about getting warm, his relatives reportedly aimed the car's air vents at the hole in the seat.

When police officers spoke with the boy, he reportedly said he would have preferred to ride in the vehicle, but didn't want to question his aunt.

His 14-year-old sister, who was also in the car, told officers McCarty had warned the boy he would have to ride in the trunk if he continued to go on water slides at Valleyfair. The girl claimed he seemed excited about the prospect at the time.
The kid was excited about the prospect of riding in the trunk, eh? If that's the case, then why bother with Wild Thing in the first place?

This confirms every one of my opinions regarding Edina in general.

Wow....if she was really so worried, why not spend some money at the gift shop on some stupid valleyfair sweatshirts and make the kid sit on those.....definitely would have been cheaper than the fine she's facing now.......what a f*ing idiot.  I love that she thought to give the kid "air holes"........what is he an f*ing dog?

She forgot the towels, that's how the kid ended up in the trunk. Not a very good reason, but that's what her excuse was. More concerned about the car than the kid, obviously.

@citypages if only Susan McCarty only knew a Lexus is just an overpriced Toyota.

Yes, Rich, you're right. We dislike them because they're rich, not because they're fucking assholes.

I follow The Onion on facebook, I thought this was an article they posted at first. Ridiculous!

I think Jake's point is that this individual with a lot of money was far more concerned with their material possessions than the wellbeing of a child, likely due to the fact that they unnecessarily spent an exorbitant amount of money on a luxury. And he finds this foolish.
