Yesterday, Prettner Solon went flying with the U.S. Army Parachute Team, who have the awesome superhero nickname the "Golden Knights." She dove tandem from 12,500 feet, fell at a rate of 120 miles per hour, and landed on the lower mall of the state Capitol grounds.
After the jump, Prettner Solon joined Governor Dayton in a signing ceremony for Community Covenant, an initiative that shows support for military service members and their families.
Prettner Solon told MPR she'd jump out of a plane again. "As we're coming in over the Capitol and the Capitol looks so small and I asked whether we could land on the horses," she said. Unfortunately for everyone involved, instead of a graceful dismount onto one of the Capitol's horse statues, Prettner Solon performed the standard-issue lawn landing.
For the full effect, here's the video, complete with an announcer's voice over and mid-flight footage of Prettner Solon looking kind of flustered but generally game. Overall, she's raising political stakes. Next campaign slogan: Politicians patriotic enough to skydive for you.
