It started with a Facebook threat, and ended with St. Paul's 14th homicide of the year.
Earlier this year, 20-year-old Naressa Turner moved from St. Paul to Atlanta. She had been receiving death threats via Facebook after a rumor spread that she witnessed a homicide in St. Paul, and she told relatives she no longer felt safe in Minnesota.

About a week ago, Turner returned to St. Paul. She told relatives she was still concerned about her safety, but decided to travel north anyway. Yesterday afternoon, her worst fears tragically became reality -- the aspiring rapper and young mother was shot to death while sitting in an SUV in an East Side alley behind the Pentecostal Church of God. No arrests have yet been made in connection with the incident.

The Star Tribune spoke with Laverne Jackson, Turner's aunt. Jackson said the driver of the SUV Turner was in when she was killed reported seeing "a man wearing a mask" near the vehicle before he exited, but didn't think anything of it at the time.

"She was set up," Jackson said. "How else did they know where she was going to be?"

St. Paul police acknowledge Turner was probably targeted, but spokesman Howie Padilla told reporters investigators don't have a lot of information at the moment.

Cario Turner, Naressa's uncle, said the social media-fueled rumor that Naressa witnessed a murder was false to begin with.

"It's crazy; it started with a rumor on Facebook," Cario Turner told the Strib.

Turner's murder is the 14th in St. Paul in 2012.

I have been reading all the comments and personal feelings that you all have said, But when it's all said and done at the end of the day we still have a young mother gunned down in the streets that has left her child behind to live and grow up in the society. I find it very offensive to stereotype people just because they have dreams of being a rapper, when you have talent you use it. She was very talented it's not her fault that she became a victim of someones rage and ignorance, I will say that I thought she should have reported her threats to the police but you have to look at the circumstances she's a young black women living in an urban area (what you call the ghetto), it's hard to get the St Paul, Police to take anything serious when it comes to threats there are no protection her life may have been in even more danger. I know a lot about what goes on in the streets of St Paul, and I choose not to say anything for fear that the police will tell where they got there information from, this is the tactic they use to interrogate people so you can't win for losing.  all that crap you talk is easier said than done. Think about how you would feel if that was one of your family members. It's disgusting and disrespectful to make assumptions about ones life after they are no longer here, when you know nothing but what you have read on the internet.

It's been almost 5 days since this murder. There should be an arrest or some new information released soon. Hope they get the guy who did this.

A man was shot and wounded Monday night in St. Paul's Dayton's Bluff neighborhood, just two blocks from the scene of a woman's fatal shooting Sunday afternoon.

Sorry for your loss, but it sounds like a bit more than a random shooting incident.

Maybe instead of holding a vigil or two and getting on the news you should be at the city council meetings demanding an increase in police presence.

What's more crazy, was that she wanted to be in the rap music industry where murder, drugs and thuggery is rife.  Is this a surprise?

If she was receiving death threats via Facebook over a murder that she supposedly witnessed, don't you think it would have been a good idea for her to call the police, instead of running off to Atlanta and then making the even stupider decision to return home?  Last I heard, you cannot not anonymously make death threats against other people on Facebook.  Common sense, people!

@ HerAunty. I always find it quite interesting that the people who scream foul about being disrespected are the people who know the least about what respect is. I have seen your posts on here and several other sights and you should take a lesson from your own writings.

Also RAP is not an art form, it is a nasty way to swear in rhyme, nothing more. I feel it is very disrespectful of this young lady to be cussing like this in front of these young children. This desensitizes people (children) from knowing right from wrong. Is it ok for these children to be exposed to this? Now when they go to school and mimic what is presented to them as normal, what happens to them? I have heard small children actually talk like this, they do not understand that it is not how to talk and most of the young adults i have encountered don't know the difference either.

 @JonnyBeGoode

but how did you  know she was going in to the rapping industry for murder, drugs, and thuggery. Its a stereotype. " All black people rap to be in that kind of industry.

@jasminebaddass1 "UNLESS YOU IN HER MOTHERFUCKING PLACE"?  I think you need to go back to junior high school and learn grammar 101 again.

@jaen - Maybe because he's speaking more sense than you.  If you are part of her family, maybe you shouldn't be involved in thuggery, or the ghetto scene.  Instead of name calling why don't you use some common sense.  Why didn't she report all this to the police?

@JonnyBeGoode  Aye, shut the fuck up unless you know the WHOLE story, and not just a brief passage. Man, from now on dont put your fucking non-helping comments on thos passage. you stupid ass judgmental person! GHETTO SCENE? I KNOW WHY YOU SAID THAT, SHE'S BLACK. ALL BLACK PEOPLE IS GHETTO. IF WE TOLD THE POLICE THEY WOULNT HAVE DID ANYTHING! JUST SHUT THE HELL UP! PLEASE. YOU NEED GOD.

@JonnyBeGoode @jaen first of all rap is an art there are plenty of rappers that dont get into thuggery or violence but more to exspress oneself if u honestly feel that this young lady was going to end up this way because of rap then your very idiotic im sure her family feel as if there are alot of things they could have done differently but the fact that u are asking them questions to make it seem like they are stupid or this shit would have been prevented u need self help your damn self because of the area we live in and the cops in this area do nothing for threats no investigation at all they rather pick up a body bag
