Abdul Khalid Hakeem Malik-El, also known as Keith Edward Montgomery, was pulled over for driving without a valid license on September 20 -- as he left a Dakota County court hearing for driving without a valid license.
From St. Louis Park Patch (emphasis mine):
As Malik-El left the courthouse, a deputy who knew about his criminal record watched him get into his car and drive away, according to the criminal complaint.Malik-El, a 44-year-old St. Louis Park resident, has 12 previous convictions for driving without a valid license, including seven for having a canceled license, three for having a suspended one, one for having none whatsoever, and one for having a revoked license. Apparently he's serious about that "right, no a privilege" stuff.
The deputy activated his emergency lights and stopped Malik-El's car at Goodwin Avenue and Highway 55.
When the deputy asked for Malik-El's driver's license, he replied that he was "traveling as a matter of right, not privilege," according to the complaint.
Principles aside, for his own good, we recommend he take the bus when he heads to court for his next hearing.
