Spectators came for a soccer match and instead got a Royal Rumble.
Last Thursday's sectional championship soccer match between Totino-Grace and Prairie Seeds Academy culminated in a scene reminiscent of a WWE Royal Rumble.

As the final seconds of Prairie Seeds' 2-1 victory ticked away, players from both teams started brawling on the field. A Totino-Grace coach was punched in the head, one player needed stitches, and the Prairie Seeds goalie was caught on tape delivering a brutal kick to another student's back.

Here's the footage, along with a Channel 12 TV news report:

KARE 11 reports that the incident is under investigation by by both schools, the Minnesota State High School League, and Maple Grove Police. Suspensions could be announced as soon as today, and criminal charges may be forthcoming.

Maple Grove police Captain Keith Terlinden said nobody was seriously hurt, thanks in part to the fact that the kids involved don't know how to fight.

"Not many of the punches landed where they were supposed to," Terlinder told the Pioneer Press.

What a disgraceful response from MSHSL for Prairie Seed violent behavior!  Prairie Seeds coach's statements dodge all responsibility for his players violent attacks but no recourse by MSHSL. Apparently MSHSL considers violent assault Ok. That's not acceptable! There needs to be MSHSL accountability against violent assaults!!!

Prairie Seeds is a magnet school that serves primarily kids not born in the US.  They tend to be a lot better at soccer than most US kids, if only from having played it all their lives.  The school's teams dominate MN High School soccer, and there have been hard feelings in the past.  I remember there were some issues last year, when they played a Mankato school for the championship.

I'd like to think there wasn't a bunch of racial stuff going on during the match, but I played a little bit in college in Minnesota int he early '80s.  We had a number of exchange students and we were good because of them.  Every game we played the other teams went after us and our foreign-born players with racist insults and dirty play.  we never got into any brawls, but we would beat them as badly as we could, run up the score, and try to get them to get red cards, which not only got them kicked out but made their team play short-handed.  Then we'd really pour.  The few teams that didn't take the low road with us, we'd either have to play hard for real, or we'd pull our starters and put bad players (like me) in to make a game of it.

That's a pretty ugly piece of video.  Looks like it had been brewing for a while when the clip starts, though.

It looks like "diversity" started this brawl.  Imagine that.

Thank goodness soccer players are too weak to actually damage each other.  Finally the wussyness of soccer serves a purpose.

One wonders MB, what do you pride yourself on? Surely your comments must rank high up on the list, I was fortunate enough to read your comment post and now understand that soccer is for wussies and soccer players are incapable of hurting eachother.  Learn Something New Everyday! Thanks!
