Drunken hijinks culminated in the shooting of a 26-year-old woman on northbound I-35E in Eagan around 2:20 a.m. yesterday morning.

Police say a dark-colored SUV was tailgaiting a Volkswagen Jetta with seven passengers when the driver of the Jetta, 28-year-old Grant Hengy of St. Paul, reached out the window and "gave the finger" to the SUV.

The SUV pulled into the right lane, alongside the Jetta. Someone in the SUV then hit the Jetta with two shots, with one of the bullets striking the shoulder of a woman who was sitting on someone's lap with her back against the window in the front passenger seat.

Fox reports that "Officials with the Eagan Police Department, the Minnesota State Patrol and other agencies surrounded [the Jetta] after someone called 911 to report the injury."

The victim was brought to Regions hospital with non-life threatening injuries, and Hengy was arrested on suspicion of driving while intoxicated. Eagan Patch reports that police's "investigation has been hampered by intoxicated witnesses."

No arrests have been made in connection with the incident. Police ask anyone with information to call the Eagan PD at 651-675-5700.
