Hengy (pictured) was driving a Jetta with seven passengers inside when he flicked off an SUV. Moments later, shots were fired.
Drunken hijinks culminated in the shooting of a 26-year-old woman on northbound I-35E in Eagan around 2:20 a.m. yesterday morning.

Police say a dark-colored SUV was tailgaiting a Volkswagen Jetta with seven passengers when the driver of the Jetta, 28-year-old Grant Hengy of St. Paul, reached out the window and "gave the finger" to the SUV.

The SUV pulled into the right lane, alongside the Jetta. Someone in the SUV then hit the Jetta with two shots, with one of the bullets striking the shoulder of a woman who was sitting on someone's lap with her back against the window in the front passenger seat.

Fox reports that "Officials with the Eagan Police Department, the Minnesota State Patrol and other agencies surrounded [the Jetta] after someone called 911 to report the injury."

The victim was brought to Regions hospital with non-life threatening injuries, and Hengy was arrested on suspicion of driving while intoxicated. Eagan Patch reports that police's "investigation has been hampered by intoxicated witnesses."

No arrests have been made in connection with the incident. Police ask anyone with information to call the Eagan PD at 651-675-5700.

Apparently none of the "traffic cameras" captured the shooters vehicle on video.

Some idiot wrote that they were asking for trouble by riding eight deep in a Jetta. Really? Riding eight deep is the same as begging to be shot?

This story and the one about the guy who ran out of gas and caused a fatal accident this morning = examples of human stupidity. Ugh.

Yeah even with having a gun on you, how are you going to shoot back when your brains might possibly be on your dashboard.:) It's great gun carriers believe that all these scenarios can played out just like the movies.Cuz thats like ya know reality.

Seven passengers in a Jetta driving in the left lane? Wow! They weren't looking for trouble, were they? (sarcasm)

@blanshay  Your general assumption that all Americans react with senseless violence only conveys your own ignorance about the world beyond yourself.  Yes, we do have the right to bear arms, but that doesn't give us a "license to kill", so to speak (although some states do have self defense laws on their books that allow you to use your firearm if you or your family are in danger, ie the "make my day" law). Open any newspaper with a world news section, and you will be surprised to see who else solves their problems with bullets instead of conversation, and you will be surprised to see that they're not all Americans. I hope that in the future you will perhaps do some form of research other than what is force fed to you by the media and Hollywood.

@evikjames Does that really excuse someone for shooting at the vehicle? Wow.

@Me123 Does that excuse anyone from shooting them? Uh, no. Nothing excuses that. I didn't comment on the shooter. I commented on the car full of drunk people speeding down the freeway looking for some sort of trouble. They found it.
