When Rep. Mary Franson, R-Alexandria, cast her ballot yesterday, little did she think she had just decided her own political fate.

But alas, that appears to be the case. In a result befitting of one of Minnesota's wackiest elected officials, wth 100 percent of the votes counted, Franson is ahead of her Democratic challenger, Bob Cunniff, by a single vote.

Here's how it shook out:

According to Aaron Ley, Fargo's KFGO-AM is reporting that the one-vote margin triggers an automatic recount, so it may not end up being the case that Franson's vote was as decisive as it currently appears.

According to the Secretary of State unofficial results, there were also 19 write-in votes. So if these numbers stand, neither candidate got a majority of votes. Does that mean there will be a runoff, or does a candidate only need a plurality to win?

@GeekAaron  It has to be the most votes of those cast, even it less than 50%+1.  Think Jesse Ventura in 1998.
