Gophers vs. Texas Tech in Meineke Car Care Bowl dead last in ranking of every bowl game

SB Nation's college football editor isn't exactly awaiting the Gophers bowl game with bated breath.
As Michael Rand notes on his RandBall blog, there are reasons for the U of M to be excited about being selected to play in the December 28 Meineke Car Care Bowl in Houston -- "It means a primetime bowl appearance on a Friday night, on ESPN, with no other televised bowl competition" and "It means a chance for the Gophers to be seen by football recruits in Texas," Rand notes.

But one person who is not excited about the Gophers' tilt against Texas Tech is Spencer Hall, editor of SB Nation's college football site. Because in his first-to-worst ranking of all 35 bowl games, the Meineke Car Care Bowl comes in dead last.

That means it clocks in behind storied bowl games like the Belk Bowl (what is Belk?), the Little Caesar's Pizza Bowl (they must be selling LOTS of $5 pizzas to afford the naming rights), the San Diego County Credit Union Poinsettia Bowl (why not just get rid of the "Poinsettia Bowl" part at this point?), the Advocare V100 Independence Bowl (again, the advertizing would be more effective if I knew what Advocare is), and the BBVA Compass Bowl.

And whereas Hall spills at least a couple sentences' worth of digital ink on all the other bowl games, here's his entire analysis of the Gophers vs. Texas Tech matchup: "Nope."

All of that being said, at least the Gophers qualify for bowl game rankings again this year -- they haven't played a postseason game since 2009. And if Jerry Kill and company are serious about impressing those Texas recruits, hopefully they'll pull off the program's first bowl victory since their unforgettable 2004 Music City Bowl triumph over Alabama.
