Michele Bachmann's favorite gun is the Bushmaster AR-15 used in Newtown [VIDEO]

Bachmann said she's partial to magazines that allow her to fire "many many shots."
During an appearance on Jan Mickelson's radio show late last year, Michele Bachmann said her favorite gun is the Bushmaster AR-15 rifle.

SEE ALSO: Thomas Caffall, Texas A&M shooter, was a Michele Bachmann supporter

That's the same controversial high-capacity gun used by Adam Lanza to kill 20 children and six adults last Friday in Newtown, Connecticut.

Here's footage of Bachmann's pre-Iowa caucus December 2011 appearance on Mickelson's show, followed by a transcript of the pertinent exchange:

BACHMANN: My favorite gun is an AR-15 because you can be so accurate with it, and I scored the best in my [gun safety] class of any of the men too in that class.

MICKELSON: The AR-15--

BACHMANN: It's a rifle -- I love that gun.

MICKELSON: --it's a combat weapon! It can be made automatic, but it's a semi-automatic .222 I think.

BACHMANN: I like being accurate, and that is a great gun.

MICKELSON: Accurate and apparently lots of firepower and many many shots.

BACHMANN: Many many shots, yeah.

MICKELSON: How big is your magazine? [laughs]

BACHMANN: Do you really want to know?

MICKELSON: Is it a legal magazine?

BACHMANN: Yes, of course it is!
Via Reuters, here's some information about Bushmaster AR-15s:
* An automatic version of the weapon is used by U.S. soldiers in Afghanistan and some police forces in the United States. The M-16 is the rifle version of the military weapon, and the M-4 is the carbine, a weapon with a shorter barrel.

* A similar civilian model was used in 2002 by the Washington-area snipers John Allen Muhammad and John Lee Malvo, who shot randomly at victims during a three-week spree that killed 10 people.

* The weapon is highly modular, meaning a user can change the barrel, the stock, the magazine and other features, easily changing a weapon's characteristics such as weight, capacity, range and accuracy.

* The AR in "AR-15" rifle stands for ArmaLite, the company that developed it in the 1950s, and not for "assault rifle" or "automatic rifle, according to the National Shooting Sports Foundation.

* Capacity: 30 rounds in a standard military magazine.

* Suggested retail price of the Bushmaster .223 caliber M4 carbine: $1,197 to $1,391.

* National retailers selling assault weapons include: Wal-Mart Stores Inc, where it is for sale in a small percentage of stores; Dick's Sporting Goods Inc, and Cabela's Inc.

* Civilian uses: A semi-automatic version of the weapon is popular in competitions and firing ranges. Can also be used for hunting.

* Connecticut law: The state requires rifles and shotguns to be registered but requires no permit to purchase them, according to the National Rifle Association's Institute of Legislative Action.
Finally, some perspective on how the Newtown school shooting could affect the company that manufactures Bushmasters comes courtesy of the Huffington Post:
Any move to clamp down on consumer sales of military-style weapons could fall heavily on Bushmaster and its corporate parent, Freedom Group, a private company owned by a New York-based hedge fund, Cerberus Capital Management. According to its 2011 annual report, Freedom Group is the nation's largest manufacturer of military-style semiautomatics, which it calls "modern sporting rifles."...

In its 2011 report, Freedom Group described semiautomatic rifles as among the firm's most promising areas of growth. The market for such guns grew 27 percent between 2007 and 2011, the firm said...

Lanza's mother, Nancy Lanza, who Lanza also shot dead on Friday, appears to have lawfully purchased and registered the Bushmaster .223 used in the Newtown killings, according to law enforcement sources cited by the Associated Press and other news outlets.

FALSE SENSE OF SECURITY:  Doors locked, sign on door "No guns allowed".  Such things produce just that a "FALSE SENSE".  Now REAL SENSE OF SECURITY:  Doors locked, sign on door "This school protected by armed and trained citizens...Enter at your own risk!  Which would you REALLY feel secured at?  Secondly, your young son is at home.  In the bedroom is a camera, a phone and a pistol.  An intruder kicks in the door...which of these three to you TEACH your child to go for and which one will likely save their lives?  Just wondering.

Well looks like the masses have spoken Aaron, granted you've generated some traffic to placate your corporate masters and drive more commerce.. You and CP were way off base posting/publishing this.  Or are you going to do a follow up hit piece saying how Michelle want's to kill children?

The author wrote exactly three sentences, then copied the rest from other sources. I read some of his other stuff, and it's all the same. Three or four sentences, and a bunch of stuff written by other people used as filler. I don't understand why this kid's opinions are on my facebook feed...

I'm no fan of Bachmann, but this is unfortunate and a poor attempt at relevancy on your part.

I don't even know if I could tell an AR-15 if I saw it, but I CAN recognize a shitty, stupid attempt at connecting someone you hate with someone everyone hates. I usually like CP, but this Facebook blog has become the worst writing you employ. Horrible.

I'd like to point out that every single account I've read of this awfulness says that the AR-15 was found in the car, so it's stupid to call it "the AR-15 used in Newtown". It had the potential to be used, but wasn't. That being said, Bachman causes me to face-palm on a regular basis, but this isn't necessarily one of those times. This article, on the other hand, is a good candidate.

Great article here City pages!  So I can now simply correlate things that people like to horrible people?  Here we go;

Hitler became a vegetarian after attending an autopsy of a girlfriend, so all vegetarians are just like Hitler.

Hitler loved movies and cinema, so all movie and cinema enthusiasts are just like Hitler.

Hitler loved art, so all artists and art enthusiasts might as well be associated with Hitler!

How the fuck does this journalist still have a job?  Citypages has officially become just as shitty as the shooter of all these innocent children and people in Conneticut!

Look, I probably dislike Michele Bachmann as much as you guys do, but trying to link her to Friday's tragedy because of something she said last year is beyond unfair and makes you look desperate. Let's at least give her the chance to tell us what she thinks about the AR-15 now.

I love guns and don't think they should be taken away as some would like. If we lose our guns we lose our freedom, that's why our forefathers gave us the freedom to own them.

Hmmmm....let's take something that was said over a year ago and post it again in effort to try to capitalize on this tragedy by alluding that Bachman just said this. This will work as a lot of people will just read the headline rather then the story and will run with it.....Poor taste. IMO, this example of poor journalism is almost as bad as the media outlets interviewing the young children that were witness to the tragedy.

Dont get me wrong, I disike michele bachmann with the power of 10, 000 suns; but REALLY? There has already been enough horrific coverage & mention of this most recent tragedy. Why would you now try and tie her into this too? Although the shooting has been quite a hot topic, I feel as though I cant escape it. People committing these crimes go down in history because of the Media (including you CP) blowing things up and taking it to the extreme is what he would have wanted. Let the families affected be, give them space to heal and back off.

@pthorn01 None of those things Hitler liked are machines designed to kill people like the AR 15.   She is a crazy person who calls herself pro life while "loving" an AR 15 a machine which made it super easy for a psycho to kill children.  Hope your love of guns is worth those dead kids.

Sure thing butthole!  I fully believe that bacause I support the right to bear arms, those children are dead...  and I also believe that marijuana is a gateway drug, equally as bad as heroine, LSD, PCP!  Oh, and it is because of spoons and food that people are obese, there can be no other underlying factors, according to @MicheleBachmann...  and if people support pro life and enjoy firearms, they wish children dead too!  I think that is quite the opposite of pro life dipshit!  Back to the drawing board I suppose?  See if you can relate anything else together!

So, if he can't get a gun then it uses a bomb.  So what, ban all the normal household items that a person can use to build a bomb.  Stop selling conduit at lowe's, homedepot, etc. because it might make a bomb and kill even more people than the gun would?  Guns have been around forever.  They actually gave you the right to be able to oppose them.  The only thing that has really changed is the people.  The low character, bad morales of this country produces these killers.  Have you spoke out against this EVIL video and movies kids watch and play nowadays...probably not.  Do you protest against the killing of hundreds of thousands of babies each year...probably not.  The ONLY difference of those poor innocent children at Sandy Hook and those poor innocent babies is age and geography.  There has to be common sense to make true progress in saving lives.  By the way, a person could easily kill that many with a car if they so desired.  The problem has been and always will be the individual not the method....unless how they are killed is less important to you and you only are concerned with the numbers.  Is it okay if only two or three are killed instead of twenty......STUPID?

RU2HOT

My point excatly on the Chicago comment.  Laws are for hello....law abiding citizens just as locks are for law abiding citizens.  Bad guys don't care about them nor effected by them.  Drugs have been banned forever, yet more on the street now than ever....and they kill more than have ever been killed by guns.

Agree on the BCA/FBI issue and really don't have a problem with a 24 hour waiting period for anyone who purchases a gun.

Disagree on "no reason for anyone having a thousand rounds". Do you often buy things that you never then use?  People buy and use their guns for hunting, entertainment and for protection.  They PRACTICE often for training for the proper, safe and effective use of the weapon, therefore needing much ammo.  Had you rather they own these guns but not know how to properly and safetly use one?  Surely not!

@keny1  That gun is for hunting humans.  That's why psychos constantly use it to kill lots of people.  You are obviously too stupid to understand that.  Dumb evil people like you are killing kids with your stupidity.   Let's be honest, you are nothing but a rage filled stupid racist.   That's why its so easy to tell your position is dumb and evil.  Racists like you are the absolute worst cowards on Earth.  Racists like you constantly kill children and innocent people.   Obviously you like that psychos have full access to weapons of mass murder because racist scum like you pull off mass murders.   Only a proud evil person like you could say who cares that a bunch of kids got killed, keny needs the AR 15 for target practice.  The AR 15 is for hunting humans, nothing else.

@MicheleBachmann @RU2HOT Yes, I am sure that the manufacturer of the gun has an owner's manual that states, "This gun was designed for the sole purpose of killing children.  Please do not use this weapon for hunting or target practice.  Only for killing children.  100% Satisfaction or your money back."

Are you honestly that stupid, or are you related to Rupar?

MicheleBachmann

@RU2HOT Those guns let him slaughter children extremely fast.  We don't need guns that make killing so easy.  That gun wasn't for hunting.  It was for killing children.  We will always have crazy people, we don't need to make it as easy as possible for them to kill people.  If it was easy to massacre people with a car, then psychos would do it.   What is the purpose of a car?  Transportation.   What is the purpose of a gun?  To kill.   Not that hard to figure out why they are different stupid.

@RU2HOT Connecticut has some of the strictest gun laws in the nation (including assault rifle bans).  Also, Chicago has a ban on all guns.  Look at how many people have been killed in Chicago this year by gunfire.  So, yeah, banning guns will solve the problem.

That said, I do believe that there should be a ban on high-capacity magazines and people should have to go through the same BCA/FBI background checks when they buy guns at trade shows as they do at a gun shop.

Also, I think there should be a limit on the amount of ammo you can buy per year.  Since the only legitimate reasons for owning a gun is for hunting and home protection, there is absolutely no reason why anyone should need 1000's of rounds of ammo.  In addition, there should be SEVERE penalties (aka prison time) for people who do not store their weapons properly when children are present (i.e. if a kid finds a loaded gun in a house and they accidentally shot themselves or someone else, the owner should be faced with a felony).

But sadly, even implementing these measures would not have prevented what happened on Friday.  Although if there were a limit on ammo, the loss of lives might have been lessened.

That said, Rupar's lame attempt of trying to connect Michelle Bachmann to this event serves no purpose whatsoever other than hate mongering.  I've said this before and I'll say it again: Rupar obviously has a hard-on for Bachmann otherwise he would not constantly write articles about her.  But then on the other hand, Rupar's journalistic skills are so limited, maybe he should just stick to this type of junior-high-school level journalism.  Because we all know, he'll never land a job at a real news source. (Although he could certainly look for work at Mother Jones.)

RU2HOT

This gun should be banned....it loaded itself, it aimed itself, it pulled its own trigger.  It is a dangerous weapon.  If you want intelligent talks using reason and common sense, you can have a great debate.  But with a foolish mind as yours, one might as well spit into the wind.  Wake up, put the blame on the individual...or ban the car he was drivinig to get him there. Boycott the university he attended that didn't catch on.  Get real or get lost.

pthorn01

People will continue to kill regardless of what you want to do.  Take away guns, people will search hard enough to get guns, or use something else to carry out their work.  See what happened with the creation of the DEA?  See how that prohibition has turned out and the affects it has had on our prison population and cost to our society as a whole?  I guess it is time to get rid of anything that can harm somebody, which would classify as nearly everything!  No matter what we do as a society, no matter how many restrictions we put up, our most desired wants will always be readily accessible!  Preventative measures are not getting rid of guns, rather looking at the underlying factors and continuous themes that we see in all acts of violence like these!  Media Sensationalism!

@pthorn01 People that support the type of gun laws Bachmann supports should take a long hard look at themselves because its way too easy to kill lots of people  Places with strict gun control don't have as many deaths due to firearms.  Your love of guns does lots of evil in the world.  The United States has tried it your way long enough.  All we get is a classroom full of dead kids.  You can pretend all you want but making easy to get semi-automatic weapons kills people.  The statistics and logic back it up.   Your stupidity and refusal to admit this kill kids.
