Allen Quist's pathetic yard signs propel him to MNGOP endorsement for open House seat [PHOTO]

Allen Quist and longtime supporter Michele Bachmann have something in common.
Allen Quist got spanked by Congressman Tim Walz in November. At 68, it looked like that was the end of his political career -- until Rep. Terry Morrow, D-St. Peter, suddenly resigned, opening up a House seat.

Last week, Quist tossed his hat in the ring in hopes of getting the MNGOP's endorsement in the upcoming special election. One thing helping his cause was the fact that he had a bunch of yard signs left over from his ill-fated congressional run.

Of course, those signs said "Allen Quist for Congress," but that's nothing a little tape couldn't fix, as the New Ulm Journal's Josh Moniz explained yesterday in comparing Quist's signs to those of his two MNGOP competitors: Quist's jerry-rigged signs apparently did the trick, as he easily won the endorsement during last night's convention.

As the Mankato Free Press explains, last night's convention wasn't anywhere near as interesting as the epic and inconclusive struggle waged between Quist and then-state Sen. Mike Parry last spring:
Quist won 85 percent of the vote on the first ballot -- easily topping the 60 percent required and overwhelming Le Sueur County Veterans Services Officer Jim Golgart and former St. Peter City Councilman Joel Brinker.

"You know, I wouldn't mind if the Legislature was where I began my political career and the Legislature would be where I ended it," he said after the convention was adjourned. "That would fit me very well if that would work out. And I think I could do a lot of good in the Legislature."

Held in the vacated movie theater in Mankato Place, the convention was far from a thriller. Just 41 delegates showed up, filling less than half of the 90-plus delegate slots available.
The DFL hasn't yet nominated a candidate for the February 12 special election in left-leaning House District 19A, which includes St. Peter and Mankato, but it's safe to say that whatever Democrat emerges, they won't be as fun as Quist, who once said men are genetically predisposed to lead the family, believes dinosaurs lived at the same time as humans, and famously conducted "research" in an "anonymous sodomy" adult bookstore in Mankato.

Following his victory last night, Quist released a statement outlining what his legislative priorities would be if he wins next month's special election. Click to page two to read it.

It's pretty pathetic that an old re-tread like Quist is now the great hope of the MNGOP's evangelical faction.

One of the scholars on "Agenda 21"

Of course, most who read this blog have no idea what Agenda 21 is, although they know what the earth summit is.

I'm so happy about this I could cry.

the word 'pathetic' doesn't belong in respectable journalism. let the story speak for itself.

@TheConservativeJerk I guess that's why he went into such depth on Agenda 21 in outlining the important issues of upcoming campaign.

Being a "scholar" of Agenda 21 is on the same level as being a "scholar" of Elvish. Almost everything that Quist is alarmed about in Agenda 21 is fiction put forward by people even more out of touch than Quist. Please keep pushing the fear-mongering over this non-issue. The voters need to be reminded that the MNGOP has become more crazy after the election, not less. It's not as if your reputation could sink any lower, but you can still serve a cautionary role.

@TheConservativeJerk Agenda 21 is a nice innocuous United Nations document having to do with -- GASP! -- planning how we should handle basic societal needs!  (The free market red-in-tooth-and-claw sort of system not having worked all that well, particularly in the last forty-odd years.)

Of course, since it involves planning for the greater good and not making allowances for private entities to swoop down and make huge profits while screwing people, this makes it the current Emmanuel Goldstein demonization figure on the John Birch Society hit parade.

@Bryce Alan Ginsberg Larson Of course, this is a *blog*. Bloggers aren't journalists. They *can* take a journalistic approach to a story, but mostly it's about a viewpoint.

@green23 Any wonder why Republicans vote for people like Quist and Bachmann when their base is a bunch of stupid crazy bigots like kirk, keny, and ming?

@womanphoenix if putting limits on human potential is your goal, by all means support Agenda 21. Personally, I'd never allow someone to tell me how smart I could be, how happy I could be, or how much money I could make. Also, what is your definition of "public good"? Is your public good the same as my public good? Where is your legitimacy for imposing your defintion of public good on the world?

@green23 what is Rupar's viewpoint? That Quist shouldn't run because he doesn't agree with him even though voters in his district voted him in? But i thought Rupar supposedly supports democracy....

Or is his yard sign pathetic because he recycled them instead of chopping down more trees for new ones? But I thought he supported the environment. So what are Rupar's beliefs? And why do you defend his doublespeak?

@MicheleBachmann @green23 I don't wonder about that one bit. The thing that makes me wonder is why they think that yelling their crazy magic words louder makes it more persuasive to anyone that doesn't *already* buy into it.

Even Kirk admits that most don't know what Agenda 21 is. So why does he invoke it? At some point, nobody is going to be able to understand the gibberish coming from conservatives as they become more insular. Discourse with them has pretty much already devolved into magic words that they believe instantly convert those who hear them into wingnuts. The mystery is that they think this situation is indicative of them "winning".

@MicheleBachmann we know that agenda 21 is real plan put together by the UN. The authors admit to it, it can be viewed, we can prove it; which means it's a positive. There is no ACTUAL physical evidence to suggest that Obama or anyone found an Osama bin Laden, or that ObL was even real. Every pain was taken to cover any and all physical evidence of his supposed existence. One cannott prove a negative. If you only rely on hearsay, then you don't believe in science. Even a retard should be able to see that.

@mingtran Why don't you ask the people that tell you what to think what it means?

mingtran

@green23 what does that even mean? Are you saying you're better than me because you want someone to live your life for you?

@mingtran Everything that you say is belied by your eagerness to absorb, believe, and repeat fantasies fed to you by people who want to control how you think. The irony is that you think that your ability to lie to yourself makes you more independent and "free".

I'm beginning to believe that you are that idiot "pizza" with a new name.

@mingtran lol  How cowardly do you have to be to think the UN has any influence or power over the United States.  Don't worry stupid little coward, Barack Obama will keep you safe.  I'm sure he could kill the big bad UN President if he attacks America just like he killed Bin Laden.   Agenda 21 is made up nonsense for idiots.  We have real problems.  If you are stupid enough to be afraid of this please just go away so the adults can solve real problems.
