Jon Stewart slams Jesse Ventura's gun control view on Daily Show [VIDEO]

Jon Stewart thinks the gun control debate goes beyond 'should we ban firearms or not?'
For Jesse Ventura, gun control is the ability to "put two rounds into the same hole from 25 meters." In other words, he's a strong supporter of the Second Amendment who once characterized the federal assault weapons ban that expired in 2004 as "a stupid piece of legislation."

So it wasn't a surprise when, during an appearance on a talk show in September, Ventura offered up this reductio ad absurdum to those who think the government should crack down on guns because they're good for nothing but killing people: "Drunk driving... do we go to the Ford Motor Company and tell them stop making these automobiles because people get drunk and kill people in cars?" But to Jon Stewart, the most absurd thing about that statement is Ventura's overly black-and-white view about the role government can play in gun control.

During Tuesday night's Daily Show, Stewart played a clip of Ventura's talk show comment, then answered Jesse's 'should we ban cars?' question as follows: "No, but we do enact stricter blood alcohol limits, raise the drinking age, ramp up enforcement penalties, and charge bartenders who serve drunks, and launch huge public awareness campaigns to stigmatize the dangerous behavior in question. And we do all those things because it might just help bring drunk driving rates down, I don't know, by two-thirds in a few decades."

Then, as the crowd laughed, up popped a graphic showing that indeed, drunk driving rates have decreased dramatically since the mid-1980s.

Here's the footage of Ventura's comment and Stewart's rejoinder (For the quoted clips, fast forward to about the one-minute mark):

In other words, the next time a crazed person wants to, as Jesse once famously put it, "hunt man," Jon Stewart hopes the government will at least take steps to make sure they go about their evil work with a smaller magazine size than the 30-round ones Adam Lanza used while shooting his way through Sandy Hook Elementary in Newtown, Connecticut.

Aaron Rupar: I'll give you a chance to edit your post, otherwise I'm going to research libel action for the bold faced lie you cited about the gun used in the massacre.

You can actually be a decent writer when you're not being lazy or pushing stupid agendas. Have some pride man, have some pride.

Maybe someone should remind the wingnuts that voting is a Constitutional right. It's weird how certain Constitutional rights are sacred and cannot be messed with under any circumstances, but voting is fair game. It seems to me that, if "tyranny" was your primary fear, the right to vote would be considered pre-eminent.

PPP's polling, released a couple days ago, shows that a majority of Americans do not own a firearm.

The NRA is nothing but a fraud organization.  They don't care about anything but gun company profits.  Their arguments are weak and stupid.  Some fools will post their angry nonsense on this board but the tide is turning.   We don't need to make it as easy as possible to slaughter people.  Everyone sane knows gun laws need to change.

A Jew that wants gun control.... Does he think that its government that protects him from another Holocaust . No it is the common man with a rifle that protects him. It is the Governments that initiate the genocides. Thats like a black that is for gun control. Should we get slavery back? No guns but lets add a yellow star for all Jews to wear. Or saying slavery would reduce our unemployment rate. Think people Think ahead a few steps. They take the guns .... then what? It is no longer the peoples country it will belong to those with the guns... the line has been drawn in the sand. Come for the guns and you get the bullets first.

Despite his cold, Stewart was at his best in that segment. He adroitly exposed that the pro-gun arguments are just a patina of rational sounding nonsense laid over pure paranoia.

Jesse Ventura is a liar, cheat, and briber. He defrauded the people of Minnesota to become Governor by lying about being a Navy SEAL He was not a SEAL, never in Vietnam, never in combat. He does not have the Combat Action Ribbon. He was a storekeeper on a ship that passed the Vietnam coastline so he was entitled to the Vietnam Service Medal. No big deal there.
Ventura bribed a guy during the primary election in the summer of 1998 and when complaints were filed against him he bribed officials to fix the investigation. This is all documented in my expose' book, ALWAYS CHEAT The Philosophy of Jesse Ventura. The release of my book in the spring of 2002 cancelled Ventura's plans to run for a second term as Minnesota Governor. Contact me for a complimentary book or get one from Amazon.com

P.S. Why does Alex Jones keep lying about Ventura being a SEAL?

@mingtran From the linked January 6 Hartford Courant story: "Investigators have not said how many shots Lanza fired with the Bushmaster semiautomatic rifle after he entered the school by firing half a dozen rounds through the glass at the school entrance. Sources said that he fired approximately 150 rounds during the shooting spree..."

"Lanza changed magazines frequently as he fired his way through the first-grade classrooms of Lauren Rousseau and Victoria Soto, sometimes shooting as few as 15 shots from a 30-round magazine, sources said."

You know something the reporters and editors there don't?

@green23 Great point here.  Their arguments about guns are built on sand.  These conservative idiots are nothing but angry stupid losers who have no respect for the Constitution as it applies to other people.  Obama to his credit is exploring all ways to prevent massacres in the future.  The Republican idiots won't compromise one bit on guns.  It's pathetic.  People need to remember this next time its time to vote.   Republicans are worthless stupid bigots.

@Kevin Green Fuck off stupid troll loser.  We can't have gun registration because of imagery Hitler?   Lots of countries have gun control and they have had it for a long time.  How come there is no Hitler in charge of gun controlled England stupid?   Your stupidity kills kids.

@atrupar @mingtran : Anyone that has a pulse and knows how to read should know that's not how it happened. If you did more research, you would too. Google is easy to use and full of articles with scientific evidence of guns used in the massacre, not just articles with falsified hearsay to support an agenda. All victims were killed with two handguns while the Bushmaster AR-15 (which your source also claims is "semiautomatic") stayed in the car the whole time. I don't understand how you guys can get away with making up facts.

@MicheleBachmann the reason England and Wales' violent crime rate is 3.5 times higher than US' is more than likely due to the fact that their "bobbies" don't even carry guns. But you wouldn't know that because retards never ask questions, but just accept what is presented to them.
