Michael Brodkorb critically injured in one-car crash; alcohol detected on his breath

Brodkorb was seriously injured in a car crash last night.

Michael Brodkorb, the former MNGOP Senate caucus spokesman who was fired in December 2011 after his affair with then-Majority Leader Amy Koch became public knowledge, is in critical condition this morning following a one-car crash.

The Pioneer Press, citing information from the State Patrol, reports that "The crash occurred at 9:15 p.m. on northbound I-35E in Mendota Heights. The 2004 Subaru Forester Brodkorb was driving hit the wall of the Minnesota 13 bridge and came to a rest against a concrete median barrier."

Alcohol was detected on Brodkorb's breath, and he was not wearing a seatbelt. There were no passengers in his car and the crash appears to have involved only his vehicle.

The last time there was any activity on Brodkorb's Twitter account was Wednesday afternoon. He retweeted a reminder about a get-together at a downtown St. Paul bar, The Amsterdam Bar and Grill [sic] at sixth and Wabasha.

The Minnesota Governmental Relations Council was having a "Get to Know You" Party there from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. last night.

Brodkorb is still embroiled in a wrongful termination lawsuit he filed against the Senate last summer. As of earlier this month, legal fees pertaining to the lawsuit had already surpassed $200,000.
