Northwestern Professor Kent Kaiser on blogger Karl Bremer's death: "Good riddance"

Kaiser (right) wasn't sad to hear about the death of one of Minnesota's best known bloggers.
Yesterday, Karl Bremer, author of Ripple in Stillwater -- winner of City Pages' Best Local Blog 2012 -- died at the age of 60 from complications related to pancreatic cancer.

As the Pioneer Press put it in the headline of its obit, Bremer was perhaps best known as a "Michele Bachmann nemesis," and one well-known local Republican publicly rejoiced his death.

Here's what Kent Kaiser -- a communications professor at the Christian Northwestern College in Roseville, senior policy fellow with the conservative Center of the American Experiment think tank, and beauty pageant judge (bio here; Twitter account here) -- had to say as news of Bremer's death circulated on Twitter:

As you'd expect, Kaiser's "good riddance" tweet was roundly blasted, including by FOX 9's Tom Lyden: Lyden's latter tweet prompted Robert Allen to point out that "Ironically, [Kaiser is] a professor of crisis communications."

Kaiser later deleted the offensive tweet and offered up an apology:

Kaiser deserves to be fired. He is a terrible example for the next generation.  The fact that he is a "Faculty Supervisor" for "Public Relations" is despicable. Let NorthWestern know how you feel:

Gotta love that last tweet. Essentially he said, "I did something rotten, but I'm religious, so it's OK." I take it Kaiser is a professor of crisis inducing communication?

Bremer also was instrumental in exposing Bradlee Dean. A lot of CP's coverage of Dean was based on Bremer's research.

Kaiser's response is pretty much par for the course for the post-election MNGOP. They are intent on driving everyone away, except for the most "pure".

The evangelical faction of the MNGOP is kind of "on the ropes" right now, with the Ron Paul faction's Convention coup. Bachmann, Franson, and Quist all performed poorly in the election, and these are the "brightest stars" in evangelicals' electoral bench. They have very little to lose, but they can make the MNGOP look even worse and keep that image in voters' minds all the way up to the midterms.

Beyond that, the evangelicals have insulated themselves so thoroughly from "normal" people that they really are convinced that Kaiser's antics are widely supported.

Get over it Aaron, this crap will continue on both sides. It's been going on since the time of Washington, and I don't see it ending anytime soon. I seem to remember the blogosphere and twittervers all but falling over themselves with their good riddance/rot in hell posts when Breitbart died.

I came home from a river watershed alliance meeting last night, and the first news I got of Karl's death was a retweet of  Kaiser's words, headed with a  friend's shocked note.

A gut punch.

Then to see that Kaiser only apologizes to TV online talent who might have power over his career?  And ripping a passage out of context from Romans only made it worse.

God don't like ugly.

…but, but, but he's a Ph.D. It says so, right there in his handle. Doesn't that mean he's really smart, and we should pay attention to him? @A1batross Yes, narcissist entirely. No room for anything else.

Oh, I thought we were just trying to make every City Pages post about Michelle Bachmann.

Haha, I like the way Kaiser got his buddy God to cover his butt. Narcissist much?

@green23 Notice that Kaiser chose only to apologize to those local media people he needs not to anger if he wants to advance his career -- and only after they (rightfully) reamed him out?

@CinBlueland All you ever type is excuses.  You are a stupid shitty person.  Dumb pathetic cowards like you are why the GOP is a bunch of dumb stupid cowards.  You have so little ethics or morals you can never condemn a Republican for doing something bad, you just immediately make an excuse and blame the DFL.  You are pathetic and terrible.   Don't have kids because you would be a shitty parent.   Cinblueland:  What you drove drunk?   Cinblueland's child:  Yes   Cinblueland:  Don't worry its ok cause Ted Kennedy did it in the 60s.  It's all the liberals fault!!!!!!!!!

@MicheleBachmann @CinBlueland When conservatives experience bad publicity for their "team", the fall-back position is, "Both sides do it, but when we do it it's okay, because we're more moral".

They really don't see the contradiction, nor do they understand that "both sides do it" completely abandons the "moral high ground".

Aside from that, conservatism relies much more heavily on "branding", because conservatives have created a narrative of ideological conformity in order to convince themselves that they are part of a vast wave. The downside of that is that you have to accept that the jackasses on your team damage the brand.

@MicheleBachmann @CinBlueland I see you're still an illiterate twat. I did say both sides, I didnt condone or excuse it. It's the nature of politics and political discourse. In fact if you go back and look at what was said around the time of Jefferson this is actually rather tame.

Can you point out where I blamed the DFL/DNC?  Not even sure how I'm a coward for just generally being tired of seeing this useless kind of story.

@MicheleBachmann Can I just say how confusing it was to hear your message while constantly hearing "I'm Michele Bachmann & I approve this message" in the back of my head. Hilarious.

@green23 @MicheleBachmann  Cin only cares about civility when he has nothing else to say.  He's a phony liar bigot like most Republicans.  If he really cared about civility and was sick of this type of stuff he would call out the racists on the board but instead he makes the same type of racial comments.  What a fraud.  Republicans are such a morally and intellectually bankrupt movement.  You can see it when you read the comments of Republicans on any website.   Like seriously, think about it.  Have you ever read an insightful or smart comment from at conservative ever on the web?   It's always stupidity, bigotry and lies.  Typing what they just heard on Fox News.  So pathetic.

@CinBlueland  You whine and pretend City Pages is unfair every time there is a story like this.  If you don't like it don't read it.  You pretend to care about civility but are just a constant asshole in the comments.  You whine about this story but did you ever call out keny for threatening to kill me?   You use racist and homophobic language on stories.   Don't pretend to care about civility its annoying.  If you are tired of this story don't read it and don't comment.  Easy solution.
