Rep. Tony Cornish wants to bring "craziest gun law in America" to Minnesota

Cornish wants to give Goldy Gopher the right to pack heat on campus.
In December, we blogged about Salon's list of the "craziest gun laws in America." The winner, so to speak, was a law in Wisconsin allowing people to carry concealed weapons in unenclosed areas on University of Wisconsin-system campuses.

Well, in the estimation of Rep. Tony Cornish, R-Good Thunder, that law isn't crazy at all. In fact, it's such a good idea that he hopes to import it to Minnesota.

From the Mankato Free Press:
Cornish said he holds a "more guns, less crime" philosophy and believes gun control proposals would be counterproductive.

So he will be pushing forward with legislation to allow teachers -- and probably other staff -- to carry concealed weapons even if a school's principal or other school administrators don't approve. Teachers, presuming they meet all other state requirements for carrying a weapon, would only need to inform school administrators. Current law requires permission from the administrators before a teacher can bring a weapon to school.

Cornish will also be making another attempt to require public colleges to allow students to carry handguns on campus if they have the applicable permits. He said Public Safety Committee Chairman Michael Paymar, DFL-St. Paul, promised him a hearing on both bills later this month.
In November, Cornish, author of the "deadly force" bill that was vetoed by Governor Dayton last legislative session, said there was "zero" chance he'd push gun rights-expanding legislation this year with the DFL controlling both the House and Senate. Then Newtown happened, and his tune changed completely.

Though Cornish acknowledged during his conversation with the St. Cloud Times that his bills have little chance of becoming law, he said he views them as "anti-venom" to any gun control measures Democrats might push.

Cornish wants armed teachers, and more guns on campus. He says he believes that more guns result in less crime. It appears he won't rest until all of us are able to tote AR-15s wherever we want, Halo style.

Republican idiots pushed this in Colorado too.  Thanks to a court ruling gun bans on several university campuses were thrown out.  The University of Colorado created a "gun dorm" where students were allowed to have guns.  Zero people signed up to live there.  Stupid assholes like Tony Cornish see a bunch of dead kids in Sandy Hook and want to pretend there is no real problem.  These stupid evil horrible people are wasting time and not fixing real problems.  Their stupidity gets children killed.  When are people going to wake up and realize Republicans are incapable of solving problems we face.  Vote DFL, every Republican is this type of time wasting evil idiot in the pocket of the gun lobby.

Does Cornish have actual constituents, or does he just represent the gun lobby?

I don't necessarily agree but I absolutely do not disagree. Clearly some points need to be worked out but I came from a school where the security guard carried a fire arm and the kids were on their best behavior as opposed to the previous year where a flash light was his only "weapon" the kids were horrible then. As they say if a gun makes u kill then a spoon is responsible for u getting fat!

If you have a problem with legal gun ownership, and the rights of responsible people to carry...you have a problem with yourself.

Thats overkill and unneeded.  Let the school staffers use Tasers Sprays and body armor before real guns.

@MicheleBachmann Do any of you people ever actually read crime statistic reports? Where more people carry there is less crime unless the FBI is lying. Where we have gun free zones and strict gun laws, we have super high violent crime rates, gun crimes, murders. LIke Chicago and D.C. for example. How come you liberal mental midgets cannot consider crazy stuff like FACTS in forming your big opinions? Gee, 300+ million guns, bad people and crazy people who aren't kept locked up, laws that keep crazy people's info private and missed in background checks, a pattern that school shootings and terrorism happen, and you morons think more gun free zones filled with more totally defenseless people is a smart idea? What kind of intellectual midget is confronted with that amount and facts and evidence and still arrives at your opinion?

@Twin Cities Gun Owners & Carry Forum You gun nut idiots had your chance to make reasonable gun laws but the NRA has refused to compromise or even consider reasonable measures to keep guns out of the hands of crazy people and criminals.  Instead the NRA pushes things like the Tiahrt amendment which are designed to make it easy for criminals to buy guns to maximize gun company profits.  City Pages isn't the one fear mongering, its idiots like you who pretend you need guns to keep imagery Hitler from taking over America.  People are sick of listening to your pathetic excuses and nonsense.

@kathimaloneyk @webceltYou bet your sweet ass. 5 terms - ran 3 unopposed. Won others with 60% of the vote. People still enjoy their freedom there. Not a single murder in Vernon Center - our hometown since the Sioux Uprising.
