I know several of these people and I know FOR A FACT that they were/are on HRA (or Sect 8, subsidized housing)  So glad we're paying for these people to have FREE housing, Free food and now FREE CRACK!

I can't believe I am saying this, but I actually agree with Keny1 for once.  There is NO SUCH THING as an addict 'victim.'  They ALL< knew the risks of doing cocaine and deserve the consequences of their actions.  Trading drugs for EBT cards is so amazingly stupid as it leaves a whole evidence trail of your crime, it is laughable.  These people getting arrested are morons.  I don't think drug testing is a good way to go, but requiring ID that matches your EBT card info as per who owns that card is a smart idea.  Many states are looking into EBT cards that have a verifiable OWNER id attached to them.  Cases like this show why there is a need.  Imagine someone trying to buy 100$ worth of crack for 200$ worth of boxed mac and cheese, the dealers would toss them out on their ear.

And yet people think drug testing for EBT/Welfare is a bad thing..

The entire thing is pure evil. It starts with the fucked up system that keeps the vast majority of impoverished citizens in an inescapable cycle and the American drug laws and legal system that brands drug users felons for life. Unable to get jobs of any means it throws them back in the cycle as a broken spirit and a lost soul that makes minor criminal activity seem like the only way to get ahead and getting a little high on occasion to soothe the pain of life is so essential that you will risk your freedom to get there. This is an America tragedy  not a victory for the Police or the people of Duluth. And for those of you that laugh or exclaim disgust I worry about your soul and sense of humanity

@CinBlueland They tried that in Florida and it didn't work. The problem is that most women on assistance do not use drugs. But their Baby Daddies do. Many of these women get their EBT cards stolen by their men (and many times due to threats of violence). So while the women will test clean, it does not mean that the money will used for the purposes that it was intended. Notice how all but 3 of these people who were busted are men? I just proved my point.

The problem with the Welfare system in Minnesota is this: There is no enforcement of the restrictions set in place. We just dole it out and hope for the best. No one enforces the employment-seeking requirements. No one enforces the housing rules (aka no one allowed to live in a section 8 dwelling who is not the recipient nor his/her children), and as usual with Minnesota's social service programs, NO accountability whatsoever. Bottom line, if we have the money to dole out this unearned entitlement program, then we should have money to enforce it's rules.

@ViaChicago So you're saying that we should legalize crack cocaine and heroin? Yeah, that sounds like a real good idea. The problem here is not the fact that they are unable to get jobs. The problem here is people making bad decisions in life. Those EBT cards were meant for providing food to children, yet they made the CHOICE to trade them in for drugs. So that means that some poor children are going without food. And I am supposed to feel sorry for them because they CHOSE to have babies that they could not afford? And then got on the GovMint dole and used that money for drugs? Sorry, I'm not buying. And yes, it is a victory for the people of Duluth. Because now there are 30 less people who can abuse the system.

Don't blame your people. Blame White Guilt Liberal Politicians.

@CinBlueland Also, I should mention that instead of a drug testing policy (which is expensive and as stated above, doesn't solve the fraud problem), this is what we need: A nationwide data base of those who have collected benefits in the past. Each state has a 5-year lifetime max limit. However, this does NOT prevent people from collecting the 5-year limit in one state and moving to another and then getting on their welfare dole. This needs to stop. This is why you see people riding the "gravy train"; i.e. collecting Welfare in Indiana, then when that expires, they move on to Illinois, when that expires, they move on the Wisconsin, when that expires, they move to Minnesota, etc. etc. There should be a nationwide 5-year limit. Problem solved.

@keny1 @ViaChicago  Maybe we can stop giving huge "GovMint" subsidies to the oil companies and stop the tax breaks for the corporations that send U.S. jobs overseas. That alone would save more tax dollars than all the welfare fraud in the history of such programs. And it would make it easier for the vast numbers of people on such assistance to find the work they need (and would rather be doing). There will always be a small percentage of those who want to work the system rather than actually work but you can find that in the top 1% as well (Tom Petters and Co. for example).

@keny1 @ViaChicago I just re read my post and I missed the part where I said we should legalize crack cocaine and heroin.  In psychology 101 that's called projection. By putting your thoughts into someone else's words  you justify your irrational understanding of things.

@keny1 I know MN does NOT have a 5 year max. I have met many who have been so assistance 30+ years...

"Explain why you call me out for civility but never keny for his racism and threats "

Civility? Yes, you are the epitome of civility.

@CinBlueland  Hey stupid fucking nitwit.  I notice you stupidly ignore the fact that they tried your stupid idea in Florida where it cost more money than it saved.  The only reason I brought up racism is because that's obviously what is behind all these laws.  It's a way for stupid Republican politicians to appeal to their stupid racist base. (you and keny)  Besides pretending this has nothing to do with racism is funny since keny and you are out and out racists.  keny constantly says racist things, he is obviously racist.  Why do you complain when I factually state keny is a racist.  You have also used racist language in the past.  You have never once called out keny for his racism.  Obviously you are just pretending to not be racist for this story but we all know what a phony fucking liar you are Cin.  If you want a debate 1) Explain Florida 2) Explain why keny is pretending this has nothing to do with him being a racist when he is constantly racist on every other story.   3)  Explain why you call me out for civility but never keny for his racism and threats 4) Explain why you aren't a racist despite using racist language.  5)  Otherwise fuck off you lying phony piece of shit.

@MicheleBachmann MB, once again strait to racism.. I don't always agree with Keny, but he brought something to the discussion. You on the other hand are an extremist who can only see racism, and strawman, hyperbolic arguments.

How do I know this system is broke? When I was 15 heard a 14 yr old girl stating her plan was to have a kid, get emancipated and get on assistance.

She was a cute white girl who could have trolled around for a college grad, but found it easier to just have a kid and let uncle sugar take care of everything.

She wasnt the only one, just the first I ran into who actually said it out loud.

I'm fairly certain she's had a few by now, in her 40's and never worked a day in her life.. Just like her mom.

So take your white guilt, raised in Edina values and shut the fuck up.. You don't know what you're talking about.

@keny1 @CinBlueland Drug testing welfare recipients is just another stupid racist expensive idea idiot Republicans have.    It doesn't work because it relies on Republican fantasy nonsense.  People that get help from the government aren't drug addicts, they are just people who need help.   Must be lonely and pathetic thinking so little of your fellow man.  No one sane wants to be on welfare. 99%% of people that ask for help do it so they can get their lives back on track.   Government benefits give you a life of poverty, who wants to live like that if they can help it?   You two only believe that nonsense because you are racist and stupid.

MicheleBachmann

@keny1  You are stupid and incapable of following a conversation or an argument.  Fuck off.

@MicheleBachmann

$2.4 billion dollars every 5 years is a drop in the bucket compared to the billions of dollars (100+ last year alone) spent on welfare. And unlike welfare recipients (who take from society, but do not give), oil companies actually create and sustain jobs. This is why you will never see ANY president, D or R, eliminate this loophole. So, there goes your argument. Again. Keep on drinking that Kool Aid, sweetie.

MicheleBachmann

@CinBlueland Who do you think believes your bullshit about oil companies?  For example:   "The Master Limited Partnership is an obscure but harmful multibillion dollar loophole that allows fossil fuel companies to avoid all income taxes on transportation or processing of fossil fuels -- things like oil pipelines.  The total cost to the taxpayer? $2.4 billion dollars every 5 years."   That is from an editorial Keith Ellison wrote.  That is a fact.  That is a subsidy only oil companies get.  Do you know of any Minnesota oil companies you stupid chump?  Why are you lying about them like an idiot?    You are a stupid poorly informed easily tricked chump whose stupidity helps rich people make money off your tax dollars and at the gas pump.   Your post is so insanely stupid and annoying it boggles the mind.  You are such a dishonest slime ball liar.

CinBlueland
CinBlueland topcommenter

@MNjoe@keny1@ViaChicagoJoe.. where to start.. I don't want to sound condescending but you sound like the standard 99%er who only has heard the soundbites or only reads CP.

1. Subsidies to oil? They take tax breaks that are available to anyone. IE buy a million dollar pump and take a tax break because maint and depreciation will bring down it's value in x amt of years.. (Yes weird.. but it's there for all businesses right down to organic farmers)

2. There is no tax break for sending jobs overseas, just decreased labor costs.

Both of these were taken advantage of by "liberal, green" companies. Business is business, green is the only color involved.

Look for the documentary of the homeless guy who was given 100k to fix his life.. You can pump all the money you want into homeless, etc.. Some people are incapable of becoming productive. There was / is a reason for asylums, we could put these people into an environment where they were cared for and less of a danger to themselves.
