The profile, titled "Game Changer," beat out four other nominees for the award, including entries from the Boston Globe and New York Times.

The GLAAD Media Awards "celebrate outstanding representations of the lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) community and our allies on TV, in film, and in the news," says GLAAD's website. "These are the images and stories that bring us closer to equality."

Also of note is the Outstanding Magazine Article recognition Rolling Stone's Sabrina Erdely received for her "One Town's War on Gay Teens" piece about the Anoka-Hennepin school district's gay bullying problem. City Pages covered that story extensively in the months leading up to Erdely's February 2012 feature.
