Who knew it was possible to find such treasures in the Midway?
Busted red-handed with an unlicensed pistol and jar of marijuana, 18-year-old Gavan O'Duffy needed to do some quick thinking.

The story he came up with sounds like something out of a gangster's wettest dream. O'Duffy told a St. Paul cop he was simply heeding nature's call when he made an extremely unlikely find.

From the criminal complaint:
On September 14, 2012, at approximately 2:30 PM, St. Paul police officer on patrol [sic] in the area of Bradford Avenue and Long Street... observed parked sedan in the middle of the alley behind 2289 Long Street. It was occupied by four people. The officer investigated. As he approached the driver's side door, he observed the driver rolling what appeared to be a "blunt," which is the street vernacular for marijuana cigarette. [Thanks for clearing that up, guys!]

The officer had the occupants exit the vehicle. When the driver's door opened, the officer immediately observed a pistol in the door pocket. The pistol was a Glock 22C, serial number ECP 289.

The driver, later identified as [O'Duffy], stated he found the pistol about an hour earlier while urinating alongside a nearby garage. The defendant told the officer that he found a jar full of marijuana near the pistol. The defendant did not have a permit to carry or possess a pistol at the time of the offense.
O'Duffy was arrested and subsequently charged, but he gets an A for effort.

The thing is... even if this genius is telling the truth (which no one believes), he's just admitted to carrying illegally for over an hour.

Cutline is wrong. "Busted red-handed with an unlicensed pistol and jar of marijuana, 18-year-old Gavan O'Duffy needed to do some quick thinking."

There's no such thing as a "unlicensed pistol" in MN. The perp might not have a carry permit that would allow him to have a pistol on him outside of his home/shooting range/etc ..., but that's different than an "unlicensed pistol."

Pistols need licenses? Is that like a dog license?

There was a show on MPR a few weeks back talking with Chicago youth gangs about gun violence. They were talking about hiding guns in other people's house and abandon buildings nearby so that if they get raided, then there are no guns on the property. Not saying it was this guy's case, but it was an interesting point about people randomly finding guns about. Maybe this guy listened to the same show. heh.
