Supervalu laying off more than one-third of the 1,500 employees at Eden Prairie headquarters

According to Fox 9's Paul Blume, 575 of the 1,500 jobs at Supervalu's Eden Prairie headquarters are being notified they're being laid off either today or tomorrow. The rest of the Minnesota cuts will fall upon workers at the Cub Foods support center in Stillwater (Supervalu owns Cub Foods).
None of the in-store jobs at the 67 Supervalu-owned groceriesin Minnesota will be affected. Supervalu employs about 8,700 people in the state, the Pioneer Press reports.
Last week's sale roughly shrunk debt-beleaguered Supervalu's size by half, and fittingly, 2013 sales are estimated to be about 50 percent of what they were last year -- $17 billion this year compared to $36.1 in 2012, according to the Star Tribune.
Today's news comes less than a month after Best Buy laid off 400 workers at its corporate headquarters in Richfield, meaning that 1,000 local white collar positions have recently been eliminated.
