Dementry Loyd's mugshot from Feb. 21.
Over the past year, officers began seeing similarities in a string of assaults and burglaries in which thieves netted computers and guns.

Now, Hennepin County has charged three members of the Loud Pack gang -- Dementry Loyd, 19, along with Montrelle Collins, 20 and Marlon Collins, 21 -- with the crimes.

"This is a case where the gang unit of the county attorney's office started to notice patterns on some of the burglaries and assaults, and with the help of Minneapolis and Brooklyn Park police, were able to pull together enough evidence to bring charges," Hennepin County Attorney Mike Freeman said in a release. "Getting these three young men off the streets will make everyone a little safer."

Loyd's story stretches back nearly a year, to a burglary on March 20, 2012, when he stole a television, laptop, gold ring, iPhone, and credit card out of a home. He is charged with burglarizing a second home later that same day.

On November 13, 2012, Loyd stole a trove of items from another house, including two handguns and an iPad equipped with a tracker. The next day, the homeowner used the device's GPS to trace Loyd to an apartment in north Minneapolis, where they found Loyd with the iPad and another suspect with one of the handguns. Last month, officers stopped Loyd with the other handgun.

Police have caught Loyd with other stolen property, and he's been involved in shootings. In one incident, in September 2012, Loyd was in a group of six men, including the Collins brothers, when a woman who knew them asked if there was a problem.

The men said no, but she persisted. They began to walk away, but then pulled out guns and fired at the woman as she ran into her house with her children. As the group fled, they yelled, "Loud Pack."

A similar assault occurred in May, when Loyd confronted a man playing basketball in Brooklyn Park, and returned a few minutes later with a gun to fire several shots into the pavement.

The Collins brothers have also been caught with stolen property and involved in shootings. Last month, during a search of the home where the men live with their mother, police recovered a stolen semi-automatic pistol from under the mattress of a baby's crib.

At the time, the brothers said that Loyd had brought the gun over.

Loyd faces several felony burglary, theft of a firearm, and assault charges, and his bail is set at $100,000.

You have to stop blaming racism, society and the media for the choices of an individual. Whether they were able to make a "good" choice, had a "normal" life, or were undamaged in their childhood is a moot point once the decision is made. Laws are simply defined and ignorance of them is not an excuse. The individual is responsible for their own actions, with all the focus on "doing me" it would be reasonable to see more acceptance of this. If a finger needs to be pointed at a failure, let it be pointed at the overinflated worth of one versus the many. Most are lost in their own shadow, can you expect them to see the ones around them?

Life without parole! Enough of the typical animal behavior that is rewarded with slaps on the wrist and an increase in food stamps and welafre. Stop the generational career freebies!!!!

Anybody who is willing to commit attempted murder for FUN, deserves to be locked up until they are about 45yo.  See ya guys, don't let society slam you in the ass on your way to the state penitentiary.

His grandma said he was a 'good boy'.  He just hung out with the wrong crowd.

Well, at least they didn't kill anybody. I think a one year sentence would be appropriate for these crimes.

was the gang logo a photo of a gun or is CP still pushing for a disarm of the populous/gen pop?

If they have been released from custody in the past for violent related crimes, what makes you think they will spend any serious amount of time in jail/prison?  How about felons in possession of handguns, burglary, possession of stolen property, discharging firearms within a city limit, or let alone shooting at someone or in their general direction?  Unless these jackasses have been released but are pending sentencing for previous crimes?  Im sure they will walk!  Now that is how I like to see our justice system doing its' job!  To serve and protect!

@MotherJones  One year for attempted murder?  Of a woman with her children?  On what planet?  I know they're not being charged on that, but they should nail them to the wall for the other charges because of it.

@pthorn01 apparently they haven't done serious time yet, but it looks like they racked up more than three felony strikes all at a swing in this case, so I'm gonna put my fiver down on 10-20 state time this 'go round.  Agreed it is pathetic that our system is full of busted potheads but asshats like this get caught and released...

@East_Coast_Doug You are a racist. Just because he is black does not mean that he has a bunch of kids. Do you know this as fact? Do you know this man? Probably not. In all likelihood, he got into criminal activity because of white racist Republicans like you. No one would offer him a decent paying job (just because he is black), so he had to resort to crime to pay his bills and put food on the table. How stupid are you? Who would choose this type of lifestyle unless they were forced into it? Have you ever read the teachings of Jesse Jackson? He states very clear that black crime is a direct result of racism. White Republicans like you won't hire blacks because you are racist against them. So as a result, they have to resort to crime to support their families. You are an asshole.

@_Joe_ First of all, they haven't been convicted, and second, considering how racist the Minneapolis police are, they probably just trumped these charges up.

No, I disagree, These guys did what they did because they have bought into a "Something for nothing" mentality. IE Thuglife...  50 Cent and the thugs they idolize are to blame.  Poor parenting is to blame.  The people who are supposed to be responsible to teach these young men how to be constructive citizens, (Family ) are to blame.  Scape goating rich people because some punk decides he's going to take what he wants at the point of a gun is asinine and apologistic.  I'm sure they have been on the dowside of race issues, like ALL OF US HAVE, that does not excuse this kind of serious dipshit behavior.  Thats a poor ass excuse for shooting at a Mom and her kids.  really very weak.

@MotherJones And just fyi:  Proud liberal here.  I've been a delegate at our last two state DFL party conventions.  I agree that the system needs fixing, but I won't let you label me a racist.  I'm not.  I'm a shithead-ist, and this guy is clearly a shithead.  There is a line, and when you cross it, you CHOSE to cross it, and I no longer care about your personal welfare.  If eliminating someone as a threat saves even 1 person from victimization, I count it a win.

@MotherJones  Aaaaand now we're apologizing for the dude that shot at a woman and her children.

I agree that the system is fucked, but that doesn't excuse this type of behavior.  I've been screwed a number of times, but I never opened fire on children or took what doesn't belong to me.  That's not how you fix things.

_Joe_
_Joe_

@MotherJones Actually, you know what?  Screw sentencing guidelines.  What we need is to pull our reservists out of a trumped up foreign war and put them to work in our own country.  Send the army and our special forces after our gang problem and see how long it lasts.

And I know the system is broken, but when you choose to harm others to further your own goals, you become an enemy of the state regardless of circumstance.  Everyone has a choice as to how they'll behave.  Victims of crime don't have a choice about being a victim.

_Joe_
_Joe_

@MotherJones Yeah, he looks like the model of good choices.  I still think we should have a 2x multiplier on any sentence for a crime that can be proven gang affiliated.

Multiple arrests.  Using stolen guns in an deadly force assault.  Firing on a Mom and her kids in furtherance of gang terror tactics.  Sounds like the police didn't need to make up a thing with these guys.  They are classic morons.  Please lock them up until they are about 45yo, I'll cheerfully help pay for it.
