Meg Tuthill denied DFL endorsement, says she doesn't know if she'll seek reelection

Tuthill's challenger, Lisa Bender, said Saturday's vote shows "people want a change of leadership," the Strib reports.
Meg Tuthill was one of three City Council members to emerge from this weekend's DFL conventions without her party's endorsement.

In Tuthill's Uptown-area ward, the endorsement instead went to challenger Lisa Bender. Tuthill, of course, could choose to run without party backing, but she promised during Saturday's convention to "suspend" her campaign if she didn't get the DFL nod.

Afterward, however, she hedged her bets.

Referring to her vacation plans, Tuthill said, "I'm not doing anything right now but planning to get the hell out of town," according to the Star Tribune. "I have no plans to pick up a campaign, to end a campaign, I have no plans to do anything right now."

Robert Lilligren and Sandy Colvin Roy were the other two council members who were unable to secure DFL backing.

In the Sixth Ward, Lilligren is facing a stiff challenge from Abdi Warsame, who is striving to become the first Somali elected to the City Council. Lilligren's ward was redrawn after the last round of council elections and now includes a higher concentration of the city's Somali population. Warsame won the DFL nomination, but Lilligren said he'll seek reelection nonetheless.

Meanwhile, 12th Ward delegates didn't endorse Colvin Roy or her challenger, Andrew Johnson.

If Meg had any integrity she would bow out of the race. She pledged at the convention to abide by the endorsement not "suspend her campaign" for 5 minutes.

She is a horrible city councilwoman. GO AWAY.

When I saw that Lisa Bender got the DFL nod for 10th ward,  I was elated.

I can't get the image outta my head,  of Dorothy and the Munchkins dancing and singing to the lyrics:  "Ding Dong! The Witch is dead. Which old Witch? The Wicked Witch!

Ding Dong! The Wicked Witch is dead.

Wake up - sleepy head, rub your eyes, get out of bed.
Wake up, the Wicked Witch is dead. She's gone where the goblins go,
Below - below - below. Yo-ho, let's open up and sing and ring the bells out.
Ding Dong' the merry-oh, sing it high, sing it low.
Let them know
The Wicked Witch is dead!"
