Michele Bachmann blames Dems for ethics allegations made by her own ex-staffers

Bachmann's logic: If there's a problem, it's undoubtedly Democrats' fault.
Here are the facts: Michele Bachmann is under federal investigation for allegedly violating campaign finance laws during her ill-fated presidential run. The investigation began after Bachmann's former National Field Coordinator, Peter Waldron, filed a complaint with the Federal Election Commission. Waldron is an evangelical conservative who claims to have worked for Republicans spanning the gamut from Ronald Reagan to John McCain.

Democrats have no involvement anywhere in that paragraph. Yet that isn't stopping Bachmann from blaming them for the ethics investigation.

During remarks made to reporters earlier today, Bachmann said allegations her campaign engaged in prohibited funds transfers and under-the-table payments are "not true." Regarding the ultimate goals of those who called for the investigation in the first place, she said, "There's political motivations that are involved because I've been named as the number one target [for] defeat by the Democrat Party, by Nancy Pelosi and also by SuperPACs so, you know no one can know anyone's thoughts or intents, but clearly it looks like it's politically motivated."

Those remarks prompted an intrepid reporter to remind Bachmann that the allegations were made by her own staff, not Democrats.

But Bachmann, who recently bragged about not getting any facts wrong during her presidential run, wasn't in the mood to use logic.

"No, that's not true" she said to the reporter before moving on to other topics.

Though Bachmann was wrong about the important stuff, she was right to point out that she's a top target of Democrats heading into the next campaign cycle. She was recently named one of the nation's 10 most "vulnerable Republicans" by the House Majority PAC, which spent $36 million in 52 congressional districts last year, including $1.5 million in a successful effort to defeat Chip Cravaack.

I've never been a supporter of the Corporate Democrats, as exemplified by the Clintons and now President Obama.  What they have done is to get as close to the Republican position as possible, but on the left side.  Since most Americans have views well to the left on most issues than either corporate-sponsored party, a right-wing Democrat just slightly to the left of a Republican will win national office.

This has worked 4 out of the past 6 Presidential elections, almost worked in 2000; and Kerry was so hopeless as a Presidential candidate there was no saving that mess.

But what this "triangulation" has done is to eliminate any reasonable, nationally viable Republicans, and has moved the Republicans so far to the Right that they welcome sociopathic grotesqueries like Rep. Bachmann, Rick Santorum, and so on.  They can win gerrymandered House races, and Senate seats in some states, against some opponents.  But into the bargain, they let in the likes of Rand Paul, the weird apocalyptic types, racists, nativists, gun nuts, anti-intellectuals, misanthropes, religious fanatics, and the rest of the menagerie we see in the GOP today.

If Republicans hadn't handed over $11M+ to Bachmann, we wouldn't be hearing about her any more. That works out to around $65 spent for every vote that she got.

She embarrasses Republicans, but instead of telling *her* to shut up, they complain about City Pages covering her public statements. It's the "liberal media's" fault that Bachmann says stupid, crazy, and factually incorrect things, just like it's the Democrats' fault that she's "vulnerable". Because Republicans would never, ever target vulnerable Districts. Okay, so they do it all the time, but when *they* do it, it's brave and glorious because they are the "good guys".

So, let's sum up the Republican position here: Nobody should report anything about Bachmann that could make her look bad, because that's part of the "liberal media conspiracy". Nobody should listen to anything bad about Bachmann. If other people just stopped running against her, then none of this would matter, but those evil Democrats keep trying to get elected - which is obviously unfair of them. And, clearly, the solution is to donate more money to Bachmann, to make the "stupid libs" shut up.

If you disagree with this, then you are "silencing" Bachmann, "bullying" conservatives, and you hate America. So just shut the hell up, stupid lib, and quit forcing us to say idiotic things!

Amazing, and this woman is on the Intelligence Committee.

I hope she goes down after the ethics investigation. I can't stand her either, along with Sarah Palin, Ann Coulter, etc.

Nope it's her campaign that is under investigation. And it was her that said the democrats were after HER. She doesn't care about her staff. why do you think she has such a high turnover rate

@green23 Please don't forget all Republicans are just as bad as she is.  John Kline and Eric Paulsen vote the exact same as Michele does.  They just know to not say the insane bigoted things they believe in public.

@Damian Amberg That's not true.  The very heart of the investigation is to determine whether or not she was involved, and how much she was aware of.  Seeing as how the investigation is ongoing, I'm assuming that means the investigators don't know yet.

So where exactly does your insight come from?

@Damian Amberg It's called "cherry picking" facts. They only mention the facts that advance their agenda, while ignoring the others. The Liberal media are experts at this. And their Sheeple eat up every bit of it.

@_Joe_ It's called Google. Go see for yourself. It's a great way to fact-check!

@keny1 Damn straight! Everyone should quit being a Sheeple. They should mindlessly accept every assertion that you are parroting! Because you're totally unbiased. If anyone doesn't see that, you just need to scream at them louder and call them a stupid lib. That'll bring 'em around.

@keny1 wow you're a dumbfuck.  Pick your battles man.  This woman is a morally bankrupt fraud.  No "cherry picking" required to see that.

@keny1 *sigh* Try and read this one more slowly this time.  FACT: The investigation is mainly about how involved she was with what they *already* know about the shady financing.

If that information were readily available on google, they wouldn't need to investigate.  Are you keeping up now, or do we need to slow it down for you?

@nate.brennan @keny1   It's one of those "magic words" that conservatives employ, as you obviously know.

Here's how it's supposed to work: upon hearing the word "sheeple", the victim immediately experiences a strong desire to be an 'independent thinker'. This causes him/her to consult conservative media, in order to parrot the *proper* things. Thus, they gain the respect of whatever wingnut employed the "magic word". This is a sure-fire technique, because everyone craves the approval of wingnuts.

@nate.brennan Sheeple is the standard reply by Paulbots when they tow his warped views on reality.

@keny1  Why do I always see this word sheeple in the same comments as non-ironic uses of the word "liberal media"?

Wait a second. OMG, Sheep + People = Sheeple! I totally get it now! That IS clever.

@Drewey Oh, I am not defending her in the least. She is is moron. But if you bothered to read my comment, it was about the liberal media, not MB.
