For $15, you can hang out above right field for 45 extra minutes.
-- Update at bottom --

The Twins are finding new and creative ways to squeeze a few more bucks out of fans.

FROM LAST WEEK: Twins owner Jim Pohlad says there's "no ceiling" on payroll, yet it keeps going down anyway

Today, team officials announced that starting Friday, they'll sell $15 batting practice tickets. Tickets will allow you to get into Target Field about 45 minutes before gates open and hang out above right field while the players warm up and hopefully hit taters in your general direction.

About 60 BP tickets will be sold before each night game on a walk-up basis. Fans purchasing BP tickets must also have a ticket to that night's game.

As you'd imagine, word of the Twins' new ticket offer generated quite a bit of blowback on social media. While some media personalities defended the organization's right to offer new products... ... others wondered why in God's name anyone would want to pay $15 just to hang out in the cheap seats for 45 minutes... ... while others brainstormed ideas for how other local sports teams could market similar pre-game tickets...
:::: UPDATE ::::

Hours after a team spokesman went on the record to talk about the $15 batting practice tickets, the Twins sent out another press release stating the organization had jumped the gun on the announcement and won't yet be selling the tickets after all.

The release, however, left open the possibility that the batting practice ticket proposal might be revived after a more thorough review is completed. Start saving up now!

The Twins are also considering charging fans a yearly fee of $5 to just like the team.

Team spokesperson, "We truly believe it is an honor that we even let people to like the team and realized that it is not fair to our organization to let people like us without paying for that honor. For 2013 we will trust our fans to send the $5, $10 for out of state fans, but starting in 2014 we will be working with the State of Minnesota and the Federal government to collect these fees.”

And to think they call us ticket brokers scalpers.

It's good that they're charging for something that's still free in the other parks.

They won't get a dime from me. I won't watch batting practice, nor the game, nor TV or listen to radio. Pro sports are thieves and I won't give them a dime. When radio or any program goes to sports, I find something else to listen to. Turn off pro sports or they will continue to rob us all blind.

pathetic money grab by the Twins organization after Back to Back 90 + loss seasons...

Wait Jessica makes a great point. Do we get to take batting practice also? Then it would totally be worth it and awesome bull Durham style!

I think the money should go to the city instead. You know back to the taxpayers who paid for the stadium in the first place.

That's like paying $10 for a gallon of milk that expires tomorrow. Twinkies need a better team.

Brilliant idea...find a brand new way to alienate your fans, for a theoretical maximum take of $72,900 (gross revenue).

But the people who buy the BP tickets would have to leave before the game starts.

Why would anyone want to pay an extra $15 to watch the Twins practice hitting infield singles?

He must think these are the yankees not the twinkies. Give me a break. Give me a break. Give me a break for a real ballpark owner.

I wonder if I could get them on Stub Hub for $3

If that douchebag Pohlad can suck more $ from fans, then he can afford top notch athletes. Worst part is that the team isn't worth $15 tio watch at batting practice.
