The student told school officials the man texted him at about 3 p.m. and said he was on his way to Prescott High School and would harm him once he arrived. Officials alerted police and the decision was made to send students home as a precaution.
But turns out the whole thing was a hoax. According to Prescott Police Chief Mike Bondarenko, the student actually sent the texts to himself in hopes of getting out of school. Mission accomplished, we suppose?
"The student admitted to us and our investigation confirmed that he sent both text messages to himself and fabricated the story about the person in St. Paul, who does not exist," Bondarenko said in a statement.
RiverTowns.net reports that the student, who is a minor, may face prosecution on juvenile charges.
