Earlier this week, DFL leaders said they're totally confident they have to votes to get marriage equality to Governor Dayton's desk, but a recent headcount done by Politics in Minnesota suggests the bill's prospects in the House aren't so certain.

You can watch streaming video of the debate, which is scheduled to begin at noon, here:

:::: UPDATES :::: (freshest content at top)

3:10 p.m. -- The bill was approved by a 75-59 vote. Read our post about that here.

1:25 p.m. -- It appears Capitol security has plastic handcuffs at the ready if today's gay marriage debate gets out of hand. From Strib photographer Glen Stubbe: 1:15 p.m. -- An attempt by Rep. Tim Kelly, R-Red Wing, to replace "marriage" with "civil unions" in the bill under discussion was defeated by an overwhelming 111-22 margin. No further amendments will be discussed, meaning that the rest of the House's conversation will pertain to Rep. Karen Clark's marriage equality bill. In other words, at this point it's legalized gay marriage or nothing, at least as far as the House is concerned (the Senate is set to take up its version of the bill Monday.

Noon -- LGBT organization OutFront Minnesota reports that today's debate could be long. Like, really, really long: The Capitol is alive with activity this morning in advance of this afternoon's floor debate, with marriage equality opponents and supporters waving signs and chanting. WCCO's Chris Simon has been sharing photographs of the scene on Twitter:
Meanwhile, Dayton's deputy chief of staff, Bob Hume, shared a photo reaffirming where his boss stands on the issue:-- Follow Aaron Rupar on Twitter at @atrupar. Got a tip? Drop him a line at arupar@citypages.com.

How many of us believed one thing as children (what our parents programmed us to think), then changed that belief as adults when we realized our parents weren't infallible and that we had been brainwashed?
