Already, Sivarajah has some competition in the Sixth District. Last week, Tom Emmer was the first to declare that he would vie for Bachmann's seat.
Sivarajah's decision means that the GOP primary contest will echo 2010's gubernatorial race, where she ran for lieutenant governor on a ticket with Marty Seifert. They lost the GOP endorsement to Tom Emmer, who would go on to lose to Mark Dayton in a pricey recount.
Sivarajah has picked up early support from VOICES of Conservative Women, who sent out an e-mail blast marking her as a "promising candidate" to watch. Sivarajah was first elected to Anoka County's seven-person board of commissioners in 2003, and is now serving her third year as chair of the board.
