Authorities have released a sketch of the suspect who allegedly assaulted and robbed a teen girl in Bunker Hills Park in Andover just after 5 p.m. Tuesday.

The Anoka County Sheriff's Office says the 17-year-old girl was walking by herself near an overlook on County Road C Parkway and looking at her phone when the suspect ran up from behind her, dragged her into the woods, beat her up, and robbed her. He told the girl he would kill her if she screamed. The victim wasn't sexually assaulted.

Here's a sketch of the suspect, who is described as being between 25 and 35 years old, of medium height and slender build, and between 175-200 pounds:

In a Pioneer Press report, Anoka County Sheriff's Office spokesman Paul Sommer said, "This was a brazen attack and we are concerned that if he was willing to do this [in broad daylight], what else would he do?"

Regarding the incident itself, Sommer said the victim "was isolated from others. She was in a densely wooded area along a path, and was distracted by using her cell phone, and the attacker took advantage of all of those circumstances," according to a KSTP report.

The girl was taken to the hospital for treatment and is expected to recover from her injuries.

Anyone with information about the suspect is asked to call the Anoka County Sheriff's Office Criminal Investigations Division at 763-427-1212.

My Voice Nation Help

A few years ago, I was walking in this park.  Someone with a white cloth bag over his head with only two holes for the eyes grabbed me from behind.  He was wearing gloves and placed a hand over my mouth.  I broke free and started to kick.  Thats when he sprayed me with a substance and ran away.  I reported it to the park police, Andover police and the park personnel.  You know what the park people said.  This happens all the time.  They made me take down signs I posted in the park warning people of the incident.  It was about a month later an Anoka County detective contacted me.  He drove me through the park and I showed him where the attack took place.  Maybe, because of my age or because I wasn't hurt, but I felt like nobody cared.  To his day I do not walk in Bunker Hills Park.
