Bobby Abplanalp (try saying his name three times fast!), sports editor at the Dickinson Press in Dickinson, North Dakota, was charged yesterday with attempted human trafficking and attempting to knowingly pay for sex with a person under 18 years old. And the news was broken by his very own newspaper.
The Press, citing the criminal complaint, reports that Abplanalp, 29, "attempted to obtain another person for sex, knowing that person was under 18 and would be subject to human trafficking." That's a heinous allegation no matter which way you slice it, but it's especially bad when you consider Abplanalp makes his living covering prep sports.
Abplanalp started with the Press just last month after working in the same role for the Cortez (Colorado) Journal. If convicted, he faces up to 20 years in prison.
