THE BACKSTORY: Drunk daycare provider arrested after toddler is found wandering on busy highway
According to the charging document, Richardson, 56, told investigators "she had been drinking because she was having a bad day."
To treat her case of the blues, Richardson said she drank vodka and downed at least four tablespoons of cough syrup before the child, unbeknownst to her, exited the daycare via an open fence and ended up on the highway. The toddler almost got hit by a truck before a good Samaritan scooped her off the road.
The Star Tribune, citing the criminal complaint, reports that Richardson's BAL clocked in at 0.11.
Richardson's Building Blocks Daycare business was immediately shut down following the incident.
