The crash happened around 8:30 this morning.
This morning, a helicopter reportedly doing mosquito-control spraying in the area of the Maplewood Nature Center crashed into a detached garage.

The condition of the pilot is unknown, but a vehicle from the Ramsey County medical examiner's office is on the scene (UPDATE: The pilot is confirmed to have died). Reports indicate nobody was in the garage at the time of the crash.

The Star Tribune spoke with Rod Wilson, who works at a nearby business.

"It was sputtering around. I heard a whumph, then a big whumph, then it nose-dived," Wilson said, adding that he doesn't think the pilot "will be walking away from this one."

Fox reports that moments after the crash, neighborhood residents arrived on the scene and tried to put the fire out with garden hoses. Omg, no way! Bet it had something to do with failing to maintain equipment.
