Tom Emmer might be the new Michele Bachmann

Emmer isn't quite as fun as Bachmann, but he's not a bad alternative we suppose.
Tom Emmer is teasing "an announcement" he'll be making tomorrow at 6 p.m. in Delano, a town firmly in the soon-to-be-abdicated-by-Bachmann 6th Congressional District.

Emmer, who represented parts of the 6th during his tenure in the Minnesota House, has been rumored to be Bachmann's possible Republican successor, and we can only assume he isn't calling a news conference to announce he's finally landed that long-sought teaching gig at Hamline University.

If Emmer tosses his hat in the 6th District ring, he'll be the favorite over whoever Democrats end up trotting out there almost by default. WCCO calls the 6th "the most conservative in the state" and notes "there are an estimated 10 percent more Republicans in the district than Democrats." Romney carried the 6th by 15 percentage points last fall, which further underscores the extent to which Michele Bachmann's 1-point victory over Jim Graves reflected her unpopularity.

In a statement released last week, Emmer wrote he "reached out to Michele to thank her for the great work she has done while serving in the U.S. House" and said he is "strongly considering running for the open seat being vacated by our Congresswomen."

For the MNGOP's sake, if Emmer does decide to run for Congress, let's hope it ends up being less disastrous for his party than his last run for office.

And we can't help but wonder -- if Emmer has to take a hiatus from his gig co-hosting the Davis & Emmer show, then who will try and protect Bob Davis from losing his job when he says really dumb shit on the radio?
