:::: UPDATE :::: Vone Moua, owner of Malina's bar, murdered over pool table dispute, charges say

Early Sunday morning, 45-year-old Vone Moua, owner of Malina's in Frogtown, was shot and killed inside his own establishment, and two others were injured. Neighborhood residents told Fox 9 that both of the injured are employees.

Police say they received a call about the shootings around 2:40 a.m., but PD spokesman Paul Paulos told reporters, "What we are looking at is what happened around bar closing, not after." Fox, citing a friend of Moua's, reports that the shooting occurred after two men were seen arguing with Moua. They left the bar, came back, and that's when the shooting happened.

Moua and his wife both occasionally tended bar at Malina's and worked as social workers from an office above the bar.

In a Pioneer Press report, Mayna Yang, an employee at Malina's, credited Moua for helping him through tough times and characterized him as "a great man."

Fox's Scott Wasserman and Leah Beno, citing conversations with neighbors, write, "Moua took over the business several years ago and had cleaned up the establishment" but add that the surrounding neighborhood remains dicey.

For instance, in 2011, 24-year-old Trent Crumble was shot and killed in the bar's parking lot during "a drug deal gone awry," as the Star Tribune puts it.

According to the Pioneer Press, 26-year-old Oakdale resident Yia Her has been arrested in connection with the shootings. He hasn't yet been charged and police won't say whether they're still looking for other suspects.
