Chris Kluwe calls Mankato the STD capital of Minnesota [UPDATE]

With looks like Kluwe's, steering clear of STDs can be difficult.
-- Update at bottom --

Chris Kluwe wanted to be in Mankato for Vikings training camp this summer, but that was no longer in the cards after the Vikes decided to go with a younger, cheaper punter.

But getting released hasn't stopped the outspoken Kluwe, now with the Oakland Raiders, from using Twitter to voice his opinions. And yesterday, he sounded off on Mankato.

Here's what Kluwe, married with two kids, had to say: He then added this about the now-demolished Gage Hall, the dorm where Vikings players used to stay during training camp: Some Mankato residents and/or sympathizers weren't about to take Kluwe's diss lying down, however: But Kluwe didn't apologize: "Facts"? Not quite, Chris. As you'd expect, according to the latest numbers, STD cases in Minnesota tend to be concentrated in the Twin Cities metro area.

So we're not quite sure where Kluwe came up with his "STD capitol of MN" quip. Perhaps it's something to ask him about during his next Reddit Ask Me Anything session.

:::: UPDATE ::::

This morning, Kluwe responded to my skepticism about Mankato being the STD capitol of Minnesota with the following tweets: Vikings training camp: when the players aren't focused on football, they're learning about when and where to be extra sure to carry condoms, apparently.

This is a scare tactic by the coaches so that the players don't run around trying to bang all of the local skanks. Rape charges and unwanted pregnancies never end well. If it keeps the players in line, by all means.

Why would he be concerned in the least being a husband and father ?? He seems to be protesting a bit too much...just saying

Drinking a beer on the Vegas Strip with my uncle makes me a hick? Your right to make fun of Heights, I do all the time, but it is about 10 minutes outside downtown MPLS as maybe 15 outside St.Paul so I don't think it qualities as being hick. White trash yes, hick no. And what's wrong with the Heights theater? Two gay guys restored that and the DQ next door and they show a lot of the movies in limited release before they come out in wide release as they are an independent theater. Unless you don't like gay guys or small businesses I don't see why you would rag on the theater. If your a homophobe that's your deal.

For all the Mankato people bashing the Vikes, well, Vikes camp is the one time of year that anyone in the state cares about Mankato. If not for Vikes camp people wouldn't know you guys exist. And also the tourists dollars that come in I'm sure help boost the economy. As a Vikes fan I agree with you though, bring it to the cities, we are more equipped to deal with diversity than hicks in the boondocks.

well what do you expect when you have homosexual sex without a condom?

Wait, the liberals said putting sex ed in the schools would eliminate STDs.

Well, we are dumb as a whole, because some still believe in "hope and change"

Yeah, TJs was a bit of a shit show back in the day....if one wanted to fight, get roofied, or dry hump to bad music, etc., that was the place to go. Oh wait, now it's the Haze (or whatever it's called now...the name escapes me), which is a popular destination for the Vikes ;)

You could be right. But I was never a "regular" at TJ's, so I'd be clueless even if dudes met there regularly to kick the snot out of each other in the bathroom. I only went there for the funny on Sunday nights, and it was usually very calm downtown on Sundays...except during camp. I'm not saying 'Kato doesn't erupt into a jackassfest during camp, but I don't think we can heap all the blame on the players. I'm sure most of them would rather the commotion didn't follow them around (but, yeah, I'm sure a few of them love to stir the turds).

Mankato has an STD that originated there if that says something.

He is just pissed because he needs to find a new Dr. in Oak for his prescriptions for what he contracted, plus he needs to find a new D@@k to swallow since he is no longer in Mn.

Are you kidding me. That shit happens all the time....in the streets, in the bathroom, at the bar. I think the key is the time of day and setting. I dunno man, after working in the service industry for far too long (and hearing the accounts of others) and dealing with them, I maintain that their presence is better left in the cities. I don't doubt that the good players and their lack of action goes unnoticed, but the guys with huge egos that drive around like dicks and treat the locals like subordinates have a greater and much more memorable impact on the community.

I don't think the players are a problem, really. They're just there to do their jobs. I think most of them are good guys, but trouble just kinda follows them because of who they are. Here's a story: I remember going to TJ's for a comedy show on a Sunday night during "camp" a few years ago. I was in the bathroom taking a leak. An off-duty Viking player was at the next urinal also taking a leak. A fight erupted behind us. Some dude accused another dude of owing him money, and then suddenly both dudes were wailing on each other behind us as we tried to pee. The Viking player calmly looked over at me and asked, "Is it always like this?" I replied, "Only when you guys are in town." He nodded. It was a tad surreal.

Lol a few months ago CP and all the other liberal news could not stop reporting about Kluwe when he was cut for his average play and all everyone could say was he was cut for his being outspoken... Now here the same people are upset because why, he was being outspoken lol

Sarah Emc
Sarah Emc

Oh for sure. I can't imagine a worse time of year to be living in Kato than when the Vikings are in town because a) it gets way too busy with them and all of their moron fans b) the players are inconsiderate of local business establishments, service industry personnel, the WOMEN, etc. and c) they destroy their temporary living arrangements. Now that I think about it, most of them didn't deserve to occupy anything better than Gage towers. I'm glad the feelings about Kato are mutual, though.....the locals hate them about as much as they hate coming here.

Curtis Meyer
Curtis Meyer

But, let's be honest, the Vikes are responsible for bringing in most of the riff-raff that cause the dipshittery that happens during "camp" in 'Kato. But, yeah, there was a reason they took down Gage. A lot of words come to mind. "Boring" is one.

Mankato is actually a great place...except during Vikes camp. Then every idiot from miles around has a pilgrimage to the "Blue Skunk."

Ross Levine

Wow, so Kluwe believes whatever he's told now? That's his excuse for suddenly becoming a passive aggressive dip bag? Guess he didn't get out in time :/ . Something tells me he didn't "really" want to be in Mankato to hang out with his old football pals after all...

Ill never forget seeing 3 huge Viking players on bicycles smoking up behind the stadium road cvs. There are so many disgusting stories from people who had to clean up after them in gage. Nothing like paying people nearly min wage to clean up puke and cum produced by millionaires.... Go vikes.

Anyone from Kato knows it is/was the STD capital of MN, Gage towers were like cell block H, etc.....his comments aren't that far from the truth.

David Olson

Why are you people letting him "Matter?" He loves it, he needs it. Nothing but a man child, puppy- like scurring around town and online looking for attention and pissing on the rug. For God sakes, he's a punter..lol I applaud Matt Birk for not lowering himself to this, "Never has been," and bursting his bubble.

Players for the Raiders have to get all their smack talk in during the preseason.  Also they have to make sure it has nothing to do with football since they play for the Oakland Raiders aka the biggest joke in the AFC.
