Gov. Dayton asks Obama to declare federal disaster in Minnesota
|The damage bill in Hennepin County alone is more than $3.4 million.|
If Obama complies, FEMA will fund 75 percent of costs associated with the damage. Local and state governments would pick up the remainder of the tab.
The series of storms that began June 20 and ended June 26 resulted in a combined $17.8 million in damage to 18 Minnesota counties, according to a preliminary assessment. In Hennepin, high winds and heavy rains created 100,000 cubic yards of waste, says Dayton, more than the tornado that touched down in Minneapolis in 2011. The total bill for debris in Hennepin alone is more than $3.4 million.
